I'm not sure that's quite what's happening. Or at least that's not my view of why I agree with it. The key thing that the club need to do is to develop, yes. However, that is within the confines of the money the club have available. And for me that development is not just achieved via the transfer market. Sometimes it's better to develop the players we have. That may mean a slower route to the top. However, in my view there are simply no win-now signings that a non-parachute club can make to guarantee promotion. Of course that means that we may miss out this season and have to sell some. However, that may have been just about as likely if we'd bought someone like Tom Cannon. And then we'd be left with an expensive signing, still being in the champ having still lost 4 players - but now with a smaller warchest to rebuild. There's definite need for finding balance, but we shouldn't lose sight of the pathway we've chosen as a club because we can sniff a chance of promotion. It's the pathway that has got us this far after all.

The longer it goes on without any news (not that it has we still have a week) the more worried i'll get I reckon. We need a CF imo and it's clear we want one as RLB himself has said that's the focus this window.

You see it all the time on social media and on here too. “We’ve just signed Le Fee but we have Rigg and Jobe so I can’t see how he gets in” etc..

But it works both ways, we could choose to develop these players over playing others who are better yet don’t quite have the potential then lose several and if we don’t replace them with similar quality to what they were playing at we’ve gone backwards and essentially have to start again. We shouldn’t be damaging our chances of promotion for the sake of an extra £££ on someone’s future transfer fee as it’s not a guarantee that it’ll be spent improving the team and promotion sees us hit the big money windfall anyway.

Still a full week to go yet, plenty of time. We will improve the squad between now and then.

Biggest compliment you can give KS right now is that Matt Grimes is a very good signing for Coventry and would probably be our 7th or 8th choice midfielder

See, it's stuff like this that means I'm really not all that worried about a summer 'exodus'. There are always players available (and attainable) who we know will be able to do a very good job for a SAFC chasing promotion. I have little doubt that we can take any money we make from sales and turn it into a very competent promotion chaser.

Yeah I agree. However, I think the testament, from what the club has done this season, is that they have put together a credible promotion chaser where we can both develop promising players as well as win enough games to be in the hunt. It's definitely true that things could go wrong as you state. However, it's probably just as likely that we could bring in these senior pros to get over the line, fail in the end to get over the line, and then be left with a load of players who have lost their trust in the potential for a career pathway at SAFC. If Rigg and Watson barely play another minute for us this season because of signing we've made, are they gonna be minded to have another run at a championship SAFC next season? Or would they be more likely to think that sitting in a PL academy for 3x their weekly wage is better than sitting on our bench again if we get another sniff of promotion? All a balance, though.

Agree mate it’s all ifs and buts, I’m sure whatever the club decides to do there’ll be fans who moan because the option was better in hindsight. Just on that last point, it kind of ties in with what I put in my previous comment - I think they’d do that regardless. If say Palace came in for Mundle and offered him £40k a week with no immediate route into their first team but mega money to be potentially loaned our or be a bit part player to our £10k a week and playing champ football I think he’d be off.

    Like we've said,

if we lost anyone that is key, Neil, Jobe, etc would be a honking window, but with players coming back and hoepfully a couple of additions to come in before next Monday, we will be laughing.

we're not panicking, which is what Sheff utd are doing, they are throwing money at it which if it fails could FCUK them over next season.

Seems like KS & MD have such a good relationship to the family especially with his dad as his agent, he will move when he wants and will already have clauses etc. never been a worry that he'd leave for me

No way they'd move him mid season only if we were in turmoil and even still it wouldn't be to a new country mid season, chance of a promotion on his CV and pick of the clubs in the summer

I think there's definitely a chance of that. For me, though, the best defence against that is to have a clear, unwavering commitment to young players getting senior pro minutes. As an example, I'm certain that we don't have Jobe or Rigg this season if we hadn't committed to giving them minutes last season. I have absolutely no doubt that they could have increased their wage considerably last summer if they'd wanted to.
