Being in an offside position is factual but as you allude to that doesn't constitute an offence in its own right so the rule itself is occasionally extremely subjective. I've always said that the tech isn't accurate enough to determine the really close offsides for certain and there's never been confirmation of what frame they use for the strike of the ball. I'm convinced in many cases that they could alter the outcome by changing the frame. Regardless, this is all by the by imo. The biggest issue is simply that it's ruined the game as a spectator sport. I don't care if it benefits us or not. I don't care if the decision is 'right' or wrong. It's terrible no matter how they choose to use it and I'll never change my mind on that.
That was an interesting incident regarding encroachment. If Guehi had left it and allowed Mbeumo to touch the ball after the initial pen had hit the post it would have been an indirect free kick to Palace. Sadly for Palace, Guehi got to the ball first and as he was inside the D when the kick was taken he was encroaching.
As things currently stand, their league form since beating City reads DLLWLLDLLLL And yet if they hadn't declared at HT, that single win would probably have been by a lot more than five.
They're so bad it's barely believable. Presumably they'll sack him once they lose to Liverpool in the second leg.
Ironically, had Guehi not encroached Mbeumo would have got there first and would have been a free kick.
Right on the money!!! VAR needs binning. It cannot be right that a system takes more than 60 secs to makes decisions that satisfies no one over the course of many games.
Ipswich beat them. Everton beat them. Leicester beat them. Palace beat them. Wolves draw them. We get stuffed 5-0.
100% regarding the choice of which frame is used & its bollocks for them to argue against. I’ve seen video frame by frame clips showing the difference at the other end of the pass, which will result in quite a few inches = on or offside.
A Spuds work colleague text me for the first time at HT that eve. We haven’t spoken since but I’ve just cut & paste that form to remind him
Feel for Mings but what on earth was the ref playing at not booking him. Don't think he even gave a free kick? Appalling that at this level.
Deliberate handball isn't actually a yellow card offence. It was sensible refereeing. Players who get booked for handball get booked for breaking up a promising attack.
It was a promising attack, West Ham were in behind him and he caught because he knew he couldn't stop it! Did the ref even give a free kick?
It wasn't really a promising attack - didn't he catch it from a throw in? I just think common sense prevailed there.
If he hadn't have caught it then West Ham were in behind him heading towards the goal. Of course it was a promising attack. I feel for Mings but you can't just catch the ball because you need to go off injured and know you can't prevent a ball in behind and the ref can't just ignore the laws of the game. This is professional sport at the highest level not a kick around between a few pals. I'll ask again, did he even give the free kick?
Presumably he did although I didn't notice how play restarted. It wasn't a promising attack for me as it was on halfway and no one had control of the ball.
