Brereton Diaz made his first start for Sheffield United yesterday against struggling Hull. They lost 3 nil. Not the start we wanted if they are to spend the £10m to make it permanent!
I really hope Welington is reasonable. Or, if he isn't, then I really hope that we loan in a LB or LWB for the rest of the season. I can't face watching Manning playing LWB for one more minute. He refuses to run!
Juric said they need to get Wellington involved soon so hopefully he likes what he sees. Manning just isn't a PL quality left back. It's not a lack of effort in my eyes, he just is no where close to good enough at this level. The same can be said for the majority of our squad though.
Manning has done pretty well this season when he's played at LB imo. It's when he's LWB and expected to provide attacking threat that he looks so terrible.
Strangely it was the opposite last season. He had a great delivery but his positioning defensively was shocking. I think he struggles with a lack of pace.
Well for now it doesn't really matter, I'm very happy to go into the championship with Manning and Wellington as our LB options, And with Sugawara ( should he stay ) and Bree on the other side we are already settled there too.
I've just seen on twitter than Fabrizio has said Galatasaray are in discussions with us for KWP, So it seems genuine.
Be a good move for him if it goes through this window, can’t see us getting much. Galatasaray can offer him a deal now I think and get him for free in the summer, so if they want him now instead of waiting 5 months we could only get a few million tops I would’ve thought. Maybe the contract offer now for a free move at the end of the season is what Romano means
I agree that it doesn't matter in relation to our prospects this season. And there's no point just gambling money away which could hamper us in the future. But that is why I mentioned the loan market (unless Welington is good enough to play LWB). Just to make the next four months slightly more bearable, I'd really quite like it if we could put an end to playing Manning at LBW. I'm not sure how anyone can yet form an opinion on Welington. And a lot of people I think will accept that Manning was our weakest link in the Championship last season. But that is for the summer. As for KWP, a move to Galatasary I would certainly prefer over watching him for a PL team.
Totally agree with getting a fee for KWP while we can... ...but we mustn't forget how good he was for us last season. The best player in the league for me and we'll need to be far stronger as a squad than last time as a result if we are to come back up without him. Start planning now.
probably our best signing for many years IMHO. Amazing really that nobody else came in for him. I feel bad that he’s been shackled to the shower of **** we’ve turned into over the last few years.
I thought it would be a small fee but apparently they have offered us £6m and we are asking for £8m-£10m. I know he is a great player, but considering the contract situation that seems like good money.
Agreed. I would think he is one of our highest earners too, so we would be saving 5 months of wages too.
Of course that is assuming KWP wants the move. He could easily reject it and have his pick of clubs in the summer.
Yeah I’m not sure why Galatasaray would pay a fee now instead of waiting til the summer. They seem comfortable in the league (6 points clear) so I can’t see them desperately wanting KWP to help get them over the line. Only thing I can think of is they don’t want English clubs coming in for him (English clubs can’t offer an English based player a contract until a month before it expires, foreign clubs can offer 6 months before), so maybe KWP and his team know this is why Galatasaray are going down the buy now route and want to wait to see what offers come in when he is a free agent.
I'd suggest this and that they see the Europa League as absolutely achievable this year and KWP one of the few affordable first team plug and play players not cup tied and available at that level. They've gone all in this season with Osimhen loan etc and may see it as their big shot. They know they'll easily get £6m back for KWP in a year or two anyway.
