I still wouldn’t be surprised if we are attempting to negotiate something in view of Ipswich getting relegated. - even if it’s not a move until the summer. here ya go Ange, here’s a player than can’t play for the team for 6 months, but it’s a signing!
I wouldn’t say no to him as think he’s decent and got big potential, I just don’t see him wanting to be a backup when Solanke is fit again.
I'd be happy to see us sign a bunch of high-potential youngsters in the same spirit as Bergvall and Gray, as long as that's not it. I suspect from the few rumours that we are hearing that we're looking for loans to tide us over. We've got limited spaces and a **** ton of injuries, so I can understand why, even if it's rather short-term thinking.
Signing youngsters and thinking of the future is fine but it shouldn’t be prioritised over the present.
If and when we sign someone (ideally not a nobody who won't help us at all), I'll gladly eat some humble pie. Unfortunately rumours and tweets from Signore Romano aren't going to help us climb the table or win trophies.
Are you really trying to pretend that the post I was replying to didn't say... There isn't even the faintest hint of a rumour from any reliable source atm. As I said, the goalposts move again
As I said at least two weeks ago, after a couple of years of Paratici's all-action approach to the transfer market, Lange's more shadowy approach has the unfortunate side effect of making it look as if the club is not doing anything - which is problematic if there are injuries, poor form, or in our current case a combination of the two as it can lead people to the wrong conclusions (or people are willing to use this to lead people to the wrong conclusions for the sake of "engagement")
There's nothing wrong with a quieter approach and if anything it's an advantage. But there is cause for concern and criticism when we're well over 3 weeks into the window that started in the middle of an injury crisis, and the only signing we've made is a player we were going to sign in the summer anyway. We've already dropped 9 points this month. Luckily the cups have emerged relatively unscathed. But those 9 points have killed our chances of qualifying for Europe through the league. We are now way too far off to have a hope in that regard. So our hopes rest entirely on the cup competitions, but neglecting to strengthen puts those on very thin ice too. We were magnificent against Liverpool but fortunate against Tamworth and Hoffenheim had more than enough chances to beat us on Thursday. It's all so haphazard and precarious and it doesn't need to be, irrespective of how Lange operates. He currently hasn't done anything of note, and that's where the criticism is earned.
Precisely. We don't know what he's done, so we can only judge on the apparent lack of action. I'm not sure how much we can actually do in this window, but he's failed to sign a single outfield player. That's all we can react to. I don't think hearing rumours of failures would've helped either, to be honest.
The main problem with our approach is that the majority of whispers are about loans, most obviously Kolo Muani and Brobbey, which does give the impression of a short termist approach The real issue with a short termist look, though, is that on paper our system should be like that of Brighton or Dortmund where the manager is as much a part of the system that can (and invariably will) be changed if things aren't working or the manager gets poached, but if we're looking at muddling our way until the end of the season that indicates the continuity is not set in stone as it should be, compared to the Arnesen days where the continuity was absolutely set in place even when Santini was yelling at fullbacks for crossing the halfway line in training
Whatever our intention to do business at the start of this window, what's potentially left to us now is likely to be more expensive than it would have been 4 weeks ago, as sellers will sense our desperation and less time to line up replacements themselves. That's putting aside the very real issue of quality. We're not paying the sort of money that results in pinching another club's best player. We're in the market for players who are out of favour or possibly coming back from injury...hopefully on loan. We really have lost our ****ing way.
News today from journalist Graeme Bailey we have been working on a deal to sign Rangers forward Hamza Igamane . Didn’t take much notice of him when we played Rangers recently so don’t know much about him. The Rangers fans rate him highly though.
