I think I'm right in saying that Aribo, McCarthy, Stephens, Bree, Smallbone and Fraser are all out of contract in summer 2026? So unless we hand any of them new contracts (which I wouldn't put in past our club to do), we won't need to worry about them being part of our PL squad in 2026-27, in the event that we get promoted next season. I suppose the question mark is whether we're open to cashing in on any of them this summer, whilst we still can, or whether we would prefer to keep them to help with next season's promotion push. (I think there's a few others also out of contract in summer 2026, such as Paul and ABK. But they're in a slightly different boat.)
I wish it was still archived somewhere. Would be hilarious to read over again. It was the level of coordination that impressed me, we'd all talk about it on our board discussing who was going in first, so ****ing childish
They're expected to change for the PL as from next season (though they still need to confirm it at the end of season AGM). But I'm not aware that they're changing for the Championship.
Yeah he's got potential for sure but he's some way off this level currently. Really if you get loans for the championship and get promoted you probably shouldn't sign them permanently for the most part. Him and Downes took a lot of our budget this season and have both struggled massively with the step up. I did find it odd pre season when people were labelling them PL quality as there was simply no way of telling.
Forgot about PSR changing. Cortese being pissed off about them and trying to reject them was a good thing he tried at the time. My logic was out Prem losses wouldn’t have been so bad, didn’t think they counted time in the championship as a different league. I’m probs wrong about that though, but as Leicester could’ve been in trouble with the EFL if/when they go down?
Remember how hard RM was pushing for Downes and Fraser. Our Russ really is the Will Smallbone of management. Just about okay for the Championship, but that’s it.
Fraser was probably the worst as almost everybody already knew he wasn't good enough. Smacked of desperation.
It was for a number of years but I think they finally killed it off 6/7 years ago. Mad to think it's been 14 years since it closed. Remember when it used to shut down for posts overnight? Used to love getting my comments in at 22:59 knowing people couldn't reply until the next morning
I’m wondering if Downes will be with us next season. He’s a Russell Martin man and having played like someone who didn’t care and could easily have been red carded at Forest, I’m getting vibes that something isn’t right behind the scenes. And when Juric subs Big Les off and brings Smallbone on, instead of Downes, it just adds to that feeling, for me. Probably wrong but stranger things have happened.
I remember sitting in a school IT lesson most weeks on the old 606 forums, and having to keep creating new usernames because fans of other clubs kept dobbing me in and I kept getting banned (must've been a 16 or 18 age limit?)
The PL rules are based on being allowed to lose £35m a season but that's reduced for seasons in the championship so I think our limit for this season was actually around £87m for the three seasons rather than £105m. That would reduce further for the 26/27 season if we got promoted again under the current rules. Brendy confirmed they are indeed changing anyway so immaterial I guess. I'm sure Leicester were issued a transfer embargo by the EFL last season after the January window shut. Probably be too sensible to assume that would be re-implemented next season.
Hard to say without knowing who the next manager will be - I don't see Juric still being here personally. A lot will also depend on his wages and who would want him. Not convinced he'd get an offer from a Prem side.
Think it will be Rohl. I’m not sure about Juric tbh. I mean tough gig to come into, but I can see logic either way in clearing the decks and also having some sense of continuity.
Yeah Smallbone for Ugo was a really strange one. If it's the case that Downes is out of favour with Juric, then we've shot ourselves in the foot by not recalling Charles.
The EFL were happy to wait for Sheff Utd to return to the Championship this season in order to penalise them for breaking rules two years earlier. And whilst that was nothing to do with PSR (as far I know), it's hopefully an indication that the EFL also won't forget about trying to punish Leicester if and when they return to the Championship. Sheff Utd's two point deduction this season might be very minor - no different to conceding an injury time equaliser - but it could yet be important in the automatic promotion race.
“I’ll cry if he doesn’t come here” - or was that for Downes? It was one of his social club, either way.
