Goes without saying that it was very disappointing that today. Unfortunate that 7 or 8 of our players chose today to turn in their worst performances of the season. Hey ho

Thats a key problem for us this season ,as we tend to sit back on a-lead and invite the oppo onto us . In this division it means direct balls into the box which causes panic as our keeper just isnt aggressive enough. We can't defend like that hes a weakness as soon as we stop playing football .. Lost a lot of points through it. The manager is learning that in this country even poor teams never give up ..

Samed's minutes should have been built up over the next 3 or 4 games, not a start after 1 sub appearance.

Not seen today's game, but when he came on in the last game, he looked off the pace then.

There's a player in there no doubt, but ween him in gently.

Different game today if we had Mundle or Watson available. Their right back was awful

60 years on this planet and I should know by now what is typical Sunderland

Really disappointing today. Has to be down to RLB some of it. Far too passive at times. Far too cautious today and even if we had hung on it wouldn't have changed my views.
I'm afraid that Patto was at fault today. He desperately needs to command the box.

    Some disappointing performances all round.

I know we need to learn but these late goals are common now. Every team knows just lump it into the box in the last few minutes and the goal will come

My optimism will no doubt come back but I am right pissed off at the moment so having a vent!!

well i am not usually one to lay blame but i have to agree with some of the patto comments, he really needs to get back to commanding his area as i thought he did that well when i first saw him, this sticking to his goal line does not inspire confidence in his back line sometimes leading to a hurried clearance.

i also feel that you do not change your defence (unless an injury) and we changed two parts of the defence today with ballard in and onien moved to the left.

EDIT: any goalkeeper coachs in here, if so can you explain this 'go in with your legs' type of saving, rather than dive down and save.

Every football team in the world can improve

and in our squad, with everyone fit its arguably the right mid and goalkeeper at the top of the list

i said it re pattinson when the spurs links happened, its an easy way to get money into the side as dont believe he would be a massive miss, additionally i dont see him pushing on much either.

This is not just based on today either, the logic was to sell him for funds to improve other areas and still stand by that

I feel like we control the bulk of games but struggle to carve out big chances and even then struggle to actually convert whatever we create, definitely could do with a clinical finisher, more creativity wouldn't go amiss either.

I think ‘clinical finisher’ is a poor comment I see branded a lot. We’ve got a striker on 10 goals and doing pretty well, my worry is when the chances fall to anyone else in the squad we don’t take them

That's because you're seeing "need a clinical finisher" and you think that means we want Wilson out of the team, we need as many clinical finishers in the squad as possible. I'm a big fan of Wilson, but he has a knack of missing easier chances and converting worldies.

Samed was absolutely fine today. He's a holding midfielder and he did that job well. The problem was that Jobe and Neil in front of him occupied virtually the same space. Playing those three against a team intent on sitting behind the ball was bafflingly negative. Then to remain the same in the second half was even worse. To me he had to have Le Fee more central with Jobe or Neil in midfield. As someone else said we lacked creativity. I'd buy another right winger or play Mayenda there. Roberts is only worth coming off the bench.

I actually think the Boro game will suit our style of play. They will play an open game and try and play on the front foot. I would think RLB has learned a lot about his squad today and i'm betting our set up against the Smoggys will be vastly different..... Lets see....we may have a new centre forward in the door by then

Like a broken record but once again, tight game against poor opposition. We simply don’t turn up and just beat teams. That’ll be why it’s a play off lottery

Something tells me that RLB is riding his luck here.
Certainly isn't the master tactician we were led to believe.
Talk is cheap and "we will learn" is getting boring.

Making those defensive substitutions was like sending an invite to them to just chuck balls into the box.

Just saw a replay of the equaliser and the defending was woeful.

I think, whilst I quite like the look of Salis, having him as CDM stopped Jobe and Neil being as effective. They were kind of bypassed in the game sadly imo.

but what pissed me off most was, they scored, we out them under pressure and they crumbled. They were literally there to be beaten. We scored the second then stopped. He changed to make it defensive.

Patto very poor for the second. One good game in a quite a while for me v Derby. Everyone went off it at Onien for the shot he saved in the first half, totally ignoring the fact that he had 3 or 4 places he could’ve out it, and kicked it to the attacker ( not excusing the Onien pass as it was terrible, but Patterson should’ve helped his mate out)

for me, I lay all of the blame on the manager today! Literally made them defensive when goals were there to be had. Invited pressure from a team bottom of the league ffs. (And I’m not doing a rocker stoker with that comment!)
