Aye. Hasn't covered himself in glory at all. Might just need a new move and the arm round the shoulder. Just commenting on the ability and price. Personally think that's a cracking deal for Boro.
Seen Plymouth fans suggesting he had been figured out in this league the other day on Twitter but clearly didn't want to be there so if he was actually trying is questionable. Soon as they played a prem side in Brentford he turned into a baller
Whittaker strikes me as somebody who could be excellent but could be a disaster. I wouldn't want him and that's BEFORE the nonsense the other night. He's definitely not a player who could grow into a premier league player either. That said - £6-8m is a good deal for Boro for a player who could be brilliant in this division.
Yeah i wouldn't take him over roberts, but mainly from a tactical perspective - his profile is not what we'd need at all
I don't think Whittaker suits the right wing position in the system Boro play. His best football is when he drifts infield, look at his shot maps from the last 2 seasons, but the right winger for Boro provides the width with the left winger drifting infield. I think he may end up playing more centrally for them.
Plenty players have done similar to force moves, Kenwyne jones did it before coming here he turned out alright, it’s not a good look but sometimes they’ve got to do what they’ve got to do, good player at a good price, glad he’s not playing tomorrow tbh
its a lesson for us to an extent. We often think we should reject bids and just expect we'll get better ones or equal ones in a future window. doesn't always work that way
aye thats what i said too, they are (imo) looking for latte laths replacement before sanctioning that MLS move, think they could see him as that replacement
I prefer your Stern John equivalent proposal (Mendy or Riis?). Mayenda, Abdullahi and Ogusunyi for me largely satisfy the criteria you've laid out above.
Its quite telling that a parachute payment club who evidently wanted Whittaker don't think £6-8m is a fair fee. Will be interesting to see how he does at Boro. Could go the way of Morgan Rogers or could just be a figure of frustration for them when he keeps shooting from 30 yards.
Agreed, Whitaker is so poor out of possession, 100% will score more than Roberts but he offers nothing oit of possessionnl and even in possession he is very wasteful Has a shocking attitude and has continued to down tools as soon as he's had enough For the price it's probably worth the risk - him and Doak both best on the right so no idea how they'll fit them all in
With them retaining Doak, my assumption was that they must be signing him as more of a 10. They've obviously already got Azaz there so maybe he then pushes over to the left.
That's what I meant (/said ). Really good attacking side on paper perhaps but not so much defensively or in defensive transitions so not addressing the actual problems they've had all season. Teams would (continue) to get at them down that left hand side...
Except their defence which is honking imo They should not be moving Azaz out the no10 role, he's been different class in there
