The 14:13 at Fairyhouse should be worth watching for those with an eye on the Supreme Novices Hurdle (and maybe the Turners) - the 3 chief protagonists all have entries in the festival opener. Willie Mullins' Kawaboomga, Henry De Bromhead's Koktail Divin and Barry Connell's William Munny will all be looking to book their Cheltenham ticket. Should be an informative race.
I know for a fact they got held up with the snow about two weeks go with it, but this has been the plan for a while.
I can't be having Crambo today, I just don't think he is the same horse going left-handed. Whilst he is unbeaten in 6 races going right-handed (Huntingdon twice, Ascot 3 times and Sandown), he has just 2 wins (a novice hurdle at Bangor-on-Dee and a class 2 handicap hurdle at Aintree off 133) from 7 attempts when going left-handed (Bangor-On-Dee, Aintree 3 times, Newbury, Cheltenham and Haydock). Strong Leader is also 0 from 4 at Cheltenham so is hardly a course specialist whilst Gowel Road seems to have seconditis and is 1 from 8 at Cheltenham. Although Monmiral is only 1 from 3 at Cheltenham, he does tend to run his best races here (2nd to The Real Whacker in the Dipper and won the Pertemps final). I think he is worth an e/w dabble if all 8 go to post. In the other graded race it looks like East India Dock, L'Homme Presse, Constitution Hill and Potters Charm whilst the opening novices handicap chase has been a goldmine for future festival form down the years so get the notebooks ready.
I shall be keeping a close eye on TRANSMISSION today. Not for today (hurdles) but for one of the handicap chases at Cheltenham. Ive a feeling theyre protecting its mark. Had a little interest in Arizona Cardinal in the Great Yorkshire at 55 on Betfair (always a victory beating the price ha!) 10 the place. Good luck wherever your money goes..
15:42 Uttoxeter - Good Work e/w Class-4 Handicap Chase (Midland Grand National) over 3m2f on good-to-soft ground. Still a maiden over fences so very speculative choice. Wears cheek-pieces (as usual) William Shanahan (5) rides for the Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero yard. 8/1 (Ladrbrokes/BetUK) best price early-doors, on ATR at time of writing.
Hi Swanny hope you are well and good to see you posting. You gave me a brief shock there, I thought they had moved the Midlands National (as it was always the day after the Cheltenham Gold Cup) but today's race name is just an advert for the race proper on March 15th:
Thanks, Oddy, really did screw-up there, sorry to all members. Oh, may the best team win today with no excuses! R's have a problem in this respect, remarking that the referees/officials for what they consider, are poor decisions against them. They are certainly not always bad.
Thanks so much GB. Have only just got out of hospital after nearly two weeks, so frankly, don't know where the heck I am at the moment. Was awful in there, allowed a simple mobile (no smart-phones) and certainly no laptops. This winner was a very pleasant surprise, and must certainly be helping me to recuperate qhicker. So, to all fellow forum members, please bear with me when I make more than the usual soppy errors!
Well done to SW, Oddy, a well-earned and well-deserved success. R's continue their most peculiar course, done well of late, but one feels they're always likely to crash (e.g. Swansea).
Won by 1¾-lengths at 7/1 SP. Fine ride by conditional William Shanahan for the Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerrirero stable. Nice win too for owners, the Cool Ridings Racing Syndicate.
