It's a tad different I think, Ross was on about £3-4k a week and was 27 when he moved, at that age he has probably 1 or a max 2 big contracts left in him, Dan Neil has big money in his future whether he stays here or not.
So basically, get promoted and lose none of the stars(except for huge £30m + offers, just a guess) stay in this division and potentially lose 2-3. That’s what I’d expect anyway, no shocks there.
On Neil, if he has indicated he wont sign a new deal them sell him, 20-25 million young English home grown player - Use the 25 million on a replacement and a couple other big signings and we go up
Stewart was our main man at the time though and I’m sure the contract he wanted wasn’t as much as Dans wanting (apparently)? Obviously in hindsight it was a good decision because of injuries but he was the best striker in the league at the time and was on peanuts. Just need to be prepared that when/if we break the structure for one, then others will likely ask for more.
i would take anything over 15 million Has been decent last 4 weeks but has been prone to poor spells, would not be the end of the world and of the big hitters (Ballard - Patto - Rigg - Jobe - Neil) him leaving would impact us the least imo
It would become quite interesting to test how we really do without him (won 3-1 vs portsmouth in the only game this season), can field any 2/3 of Rigg, Jobe, Samed, Le Fee, Browne, Aleksic should he go - Which i think is pretty solid but would need another in. I don't know how well we would cope but it wouldn't be the end of our season by any means.
Yes. But every footballer is after that first "big" contract, the one that keeps than out of the warehouse if the worst happens. I can't begrudge them that. I've priced myself around for decades. I'd like to see us work something out though, maybe with a signing on fee if that works, but he's a tremendous player.
Neil leaving us now would impact us big time. Early season he was having to adapt to how RLB wanted his number 6 to play. Can't see any of our other cm filling that slot apart from possibly Samed who's just coming back from injury. Hopefully we'll keep hold of our important players and add to the squad.
I'm resigned to Neil going. Won't sign his contract and now his agent is hawking him out. He'll be gone IMO. In theory Samed can do his job.
And Le Fee has done exactly that for Regis too, so there is a couple of options - Jobe played as the 6 too quite successfully.
Hmm not sure its a massive blow, obviously better to keep him, but if he isn't signing new deal then get rid now and take money. Browne samed enzo can all play their and could even bring in someone else
Might be. multiple journalists getting a "2 clubs interested in Dan Neil" line at the same time could well be his agent trying to get more interest. I can't say its definitely happening and you can't say it definitely isn't.
Disagree re Jobe, but that was last season before he's developed immensely as a box to box midfielder
