I have just got one thing to say about this one. Have you seen the goals against for Burnley? It's 9 yes that would be 9 (nine). This is the time to show the rest of the league just how good we are.................................................................

We managed TEN against in two successive matches......maybe a 0-0 is the best we can expect from this tight outfit.......they have only scored 31.....we lost at their place only 1-0.....that is a success story for us.

John Shelvey has returned to England to become Burnley's third signing of the January window.

Shelvey has joined Burnley on a deal until the end of the season after his contract with Turkish Super Lig side Eyupspor expired.

The former England midfielder had a long career in the Premier League with Liverpool, Swansea and Newcastle and wants to help the third placed Clarets return to the top flight

    Daily Express...Tuesday 21/01/2025.

Probably not available for tonights game.....so they have an experienced Premier player to strengthen up their midfield.....how the other half live.

Experienced in the sense of having been released by his Turkish club having managed just 6 appearances. Still, if you have tens of millions in parachute playments, things are so much easier.

If you read the story on the beeb about their offer for Whittaker then money is allegedly tight at Turf Moor. Shelvey is well on the way down in his career so I can't see him being a wonder signing for them and to be honest not sure why they would sign him at all. I would say he was good once but now..........

Shelvey has a contract until the end of the season.

They have brought in two other players during the window.

Oliver Sonne defender Danish/Peruvian....plays for Peru......four and half year contract.....and Ashley Barnes who has played for them before...contract until the end of the season.

Burnley have put in a new offer for Whittaker.....although well below the asking price set by Argyle.

I hope this doesn't sideline Whittaker for tonights match.....we're already more than a blunt sword regarding goals.

Argyle have made it crystal clear they won’t entertain bids unless their valuation is met and even then, only if Whittaker wants to go.

What more is there to say?

Grimshaw, Mumba, Ogbeta, Pleguezuelo, Hardie, Puchacz, Gyabi, Randell, Al Hajj, Baidoo, Palsson.

    Subs
Baker, Houghton, Cissoko, Wright, Bundu, Sorinola, Roberts, Issaka, Finn.

No Whittaker in the squad.....is that to do with Burnley putting in a bid ?

Are we already planning for Div One.

    0-5.....H/T

I haven't got time to put all the goal scorers and times down.

This is a shambles.....people leaving before H/T.....Why isn't Sorinolo & Cissoko playing....there are players on that pitch that shouldn't be.

    0-5.....F/T

Looks like they went easy on us in the second half.

Argyle set new record of not winning in 14 consecutive league games.

I’ve been going to Argyle since I was 4 or 5. That first half was conceivably the worst 45 minutes of football in all that time.

We gifted an efficient if unimpressive Burnley most of those goals.

Undoubtedly they were content to pass it about in the second but we were a little better and the subs that game on deserve to start next time merely for making an effort: Bundu and Callum Wright in particular.

Shocking. Muslic must be wondering what the hell he’s taken on.

Sorinolo has been one of our best players recently and with a weakened squad how on earth is he only on the subs bench.
Since coming back from injury Cissoko has hardly had a look in....why ?

Spooky that you have written exactly what me and comrades said in the bar whilst drfowing ourselves. That was the worst half of football I have ever witnessed. We could not have made it easier for them if we had changed shirts and joined them. Second half and I don't think Burnley eased off at all. They were well up for another 5 if they could get them. We improved and at least there was some fight in the team. MOM was Colin. He was the chap who won £150 voucher for hiting the crossbar at halftime. He didn't have much competition. Can't blame the Ref or the lino.

We have a mismatched squad which doesn’t allow the manager to pick a robust formation and even that has been ravaged by injury.

Probably our most exciting and fearsome attacker, Cissoko, can’t get a game because we have bought a raft of attacking central midfielders who are dominating the team. To be honest, we’ve got enough cover in that area for it not to matter much if Whitaker left and it might be a good thing to have a large wedge of cash to spent in other parts of the team. Is there time to do that in this transfer window though?

For some unknown reason, the players are picking seem to have lost the will to compete and are committing the most basic of errors. They seem obsessed by the need to make every touch a masterpiece when under pressure in danger areas, the best thing to do really is just to hoof it as far away as possible and run after it.

Do you know what I was thinking for most of the game? I wonder what Dan Scarr’s doing at the moment? Couldn’t we just do with his no nonsense, don’t-you-give-me-no-cheek-boy-or-I’ll-kick-you-into-the-middle-of-next-week attitude? That was for the opposition and his own team mates if necessary. Not good enough for us was it, so we bought Palsson.

I feel really sorry for Muslic who can’t have imagined he’d come into this. It’s important that focus is on the players we have and their individual performances and the players we need. Another witch hunt leading to yet another change of manager will just bring yet more disruption.

PS I see that Whittaker was in both squad and the starting 11 last night but he turned up late so Muslic chopped him from both. High risk under the circumstances but I think Muslic is right in showing them who’s in charge. He gave due warning last time by taking Gyabi off at half time for lack of effort and making no bones about it when asked about it by the press. I think he should have run with it and started Houghton last night. Does this change our thoughts on Cissoko?

I’d say Sorinola is a very likeable lad and like Mumba, on the small size, nippy and not bad on the ball. Is he a strong physical defender though? No.

Can he play as a WB in a five? Perhaps. Can he play in a four as a FB? No. That limits the opportunity to play Cissoko.

Comparing Sirinola to our new Number 17 is like comparing a Fiat Uno to a Challenger tank.

November 5th...(Bonfire night) was the last time Argyle won a league match.....beating Portsmouth 1-0.

During the season we have won only four games and kept a clean sheet only twice and failed to score fifteen times.....lost by six once...lost by five twice...lost be four twice...scored twenty five goals and conceded sixty.

Some of the above can be associated with our continual injury list...especially of key players...but not completely.

We're on our second manager this season.....but our managerial woe's go back longer than that to the day Schumacher took Stoke's thirty pieces of silver.......we had no idea then what the future held.....maybe it was a good thing that we didn't know what the future held.

But it did seem to be the last straw that broke the camel's back last night for some....especially when the team sheet was announced and Morgan Whittaker wasn't even on the subs bench....with all the talk of teams putting in bids for him....the conclusion was he has had enough and he is leaving.....follow this up with 1,,,2...3...4...5...goals against by half-time and some fans could not stay to watch anymore and where leaving or had already left.

Each week....(accept for the weird Brentford result) Argyle seem to hit an even lower level....defensive hero Gibson leaves and now it seems even Whittaker might be.....how do you bring in players to strengthen the squad when choice players seem to be leaving.....you wonder what it is costing to persuade new players to come to this outback of English football.....Miron Muslic must be wondering why he signed a three and a half year deal to come to PAFC.
