EFL Championship 2024--25: 28 matches played Norwich City GF: 41 (3rd highest in league) Shots: 312 (17th) Shots on target: 112 (6th) SoT%: 35.9 (1st) Goals per shot: 0.13 (1st) Goals per SOT: 0.36 (1st) Cumulative xG: 37.1 (5th) xG per shot (excluding penalties): 0.12 (=1st) GF (excluding penalties) relative to xG: +4.5 (2nd highest) (Stats are from FBref) In sum: We create quality chances; we convert them; we outscore our xG. Only Leeds and 'Boro have scored more goals than us. While we don't take as many shots as most other teams, we lead the league in shot productivity -- over a third of our shots are on target, the best ratio in the league; they result in more goals than do the SoT of any other team in the league. Imagine if Sargent and Núñez hadn't been missing through injury, and McLean and Sainz hadn't been so irresponsible .......
Simply trying to provide some perspective for the current grumbling about dearth of shot/shots on target in the last two league games.
Are we forgetting in all this gloom and doom that in the last two games we played away from home, without our main striker and also our leading scorer, the top 2 in the table who are so dominant this year that with only half the season gone they are already 18 points clear of the 7th placed side, In neither game were we outplayed or heavily beaten and all this in a season of transition.
We weren't heavily beaten but we were clearly outplayed in both games, but that was to be expected given the circumstances. Much will now depend on how we do against Swansea at home with all of the current problems we have. A good solid win would restore both confidence and morale.
In the last 270 minutes Norwich had 1 shot on target our 3 opponents had 21 shots on target combined. I'm not sure being concerned about that is unnecessary groaning . Conceding 8
In the last 2 matches we've played the top 2, who on their day can steamroller most other clubs in this division, we've also played Brighton who when they play well are European quality (though haven't shown their ability as much this season). All with a litany of injuries, brain-dead suspensions and lack of quality through the squad. We've already had the brain-dead posts on (un)social media, showcasing when our going gets tough, our club's 'supporters' get going; on the manager, the board, owners etc...Currently it's we need to spend millions on replacing Sargent, Sainz Crnac & defence (not that I dis-agree with some of those), as apparently in their view this season was a promotion year. Without a forethought of what happens to the replaced when they're fit/available. So no DD it's not moaning / groaning, it's practical realism
1 shot on target in 3 games is ridiculously bad no matter how good the opponents are. I didn’t mention sacking or replacing anyone , i just wondered if perhaps recruiting a striker to replace Idah & Barnes may improve our forward options . Maybe even replace Hanley as our defence is horrible. There's no guarantees that Sargent won't get injured again then we're back to putting Hernandez up front .. A guy that hasn't scored a home goal for years
I would agree maybe if we had been at full strength but I think there is a lot of mitigation that contributed to the results and performances
Pretty disheartening to concede from kick off in the first few seconds then spend the remaining 90+ minutes without a shot on goal off the back of the 2 previous weak collapses with 1 shot . Gutless
