Not being "dramatic", just realistic. All it would take is Pandur to get injured (or suspended) and we'd be relying on a 21 y.o. kid who has zero appearances at Championship or higher level. And cover to him would be even more worrying. It would be a crazy, unnecessary gamble to take given we are in the fight of our lives now to stay up (and that's not meant as a slight on TLTs potential).
Apparently Spurs were interested in this kid. Him and Inoussa are the most highly-rated prospects in that league I think.
I get people having sympathy for Pandur because he's not done much wrong since preseason, though I do feel his distribution is probably lacking in comparison to what we've seen Rushworth do in this division previously, and they're probably on a par in the other aspects of their respective abilities. Personally, I think competition is generally a good thing and we are not in a position to be favouring a player simply because he's 'ours". It's weird really because in almost every other position we probably do need better options, but GK is the one where we don't as much, yet still seems to generate as much discussion. Still, some will be happy that Ivor gets his place back, you'd assume Racioppi now stays and we have TLT as well, so we're pretty well covered.
Rushworth was a much better distributor than Pandur. This is an important factor when we have players in our defence and midfield who are not comfortable taking the ball under pressure (like McLoughlin, Dremeh and Jacob). However there’s no evidence so far to suggest Rushworth was a better shot stopper than Pandur so it is what it is. And some of the above players may feature less when the new signings are finalised.
Reportedly on 18k odd a week, I think I'd manage!! The life of pro goalkeepers is a really really odd one tho innit, if you think that most clubs in the top few divs will have at least 2 if not 3 senior keepers on the books, you've got almost 2 in 3 pro goalkeepers who will rarely get any playing time, just train, be there on match days and go home. Unlike with outfield players where you've that chance to come on as a sub, be rotated in etc. if you're second choice that's just it....some keepers can go years and years and years without playing, picking up a wedge.....must be a really strange existence
I don't like this Rushworth news. It's obvious he was our number 1 and it should be obvious why. Pandur is a good shot-stopper as we've done to death plenty of times but there is more to the position. We can't be getting penned into our own box at goal kicks because our goalkeeper can't make passes longer than a few yards. Whether people have noticed it or not, that is what has happened with Pandur. Three examples are the Leeds and Boro games and the Portsmouth home draw. In all three of those games there were long spells where we simply couldn't get out of our box and every goal kick became a scary prospect. The goalkeeper simply has to be able to make mid-range passes to the wings in the modern game. It's now another position that looks a mess. We've got a keeper who is popular but no City manager has ever wanted and lacks a crucial skill and a keeper who we've been trying to bin off and presumably also lacks that same skill otherwise he'd have had a chance by now. Curious to know why Brighton have recalled him. Maybe because our style is play isn't as closely aligned to theirs as Walters was?
Think someone’s had our pants down here, and not for the first time! We’ve paid him all season, whilst injured, to see no benefit, as soon as fit, he’s recalled. Hope Pandur returns with a point (or three!) to prove. What with Rushworth and Giles, what a waste of money this season.
From what we saw Rushworth was better at distributing the ball, both in tempo and quality. But from what I saw last night he got drowned out in a packed box and ended up flapping at a few balls. Made a couple of decent stops too but nothing Pandur isn’t capable of. Pandur commands his area pretty well and as we know is a decent shot stopper. He’s also not that bad with his feet, he’s certainly no Ingram. I wouldn’t have been disappointed if he came back in on Friday regardless of Rushworth going back
As they've recalled him I assume we'll get a chunk of the loan fee back? We should use that to pay to get Sorba out of Nantes
Exactly, pandur is nowhere near as bad with his feet as people make out, yes some may be better but that doesn't make him poor. His technical ability as an actual GK is better then rushworth and so is his command of his area. He's our GK and has the potential to be for years to come, he is working on his distribution and that will continue to improve along with the other aspects of his game that are already at a top half championship level. Why some where so eager to see him replaced is a strange one considering he's the reason we aren't cut away at the bottom. His distribution hasn't cost us points this season ( at a push you could argue Leeds but that's clutching at straws with what else went on during the game ) but his GK ability has certainly gained us points this season and I'm sure will again before the season finishes..... I know which id rather have
Now he's gone... He was rubbish anyway, didn't score any goals or any assists, let 3 goals in in 3 games... Good riddance
