We were told closing the border to millions of illegals was impossible . Pardon me if I say pooh. I was roundly mocked on here some time ago when I said we had no chance of stopping the drug trade because we couldn't protect our borders all day, every day around the entire coastline. We also can't control our borders to stop every dinghy but the difference is they all come via one route and get escorted to shore by the coastguard or lifeboats. The obvious reason is that those trying to get here illegally are onto a winner provided they don't drown. Like a skilled burglar knowing how to get into any house they know how to get here no matter what protection is put in place.

They don't even need towing back. They get put onto border patrol and RNLI boats, which could just land them straight back in France instead of bringing them here.
