Joe Biden acting like a president should when leaving office. Surely even Trump won't be able to cause a scene in 4 years time as he won't be able to run again.
Rules are made for breaking. Although I actually think he will allow it to pass next time, on the condition it goes to Jr.
Yeah minimum does mean minimum. Can IPP (if still called that) be issued to under 21s? Or do life sentences override that anyway as essentially the sand thing.
Rules are one thing, the 2 term law is written in the US Consititution. Although it wouldn't surprise me if he tried to get the 22nd Amendment repealed.
I think they abolished IPPs. Murder is a mandatory life sentence anyway. Having done a bit of googling I think what the BBC said was technically wrong. You can get a whole life term if you were between 18 and 21 when the crime took place and the crime is particularly serious, which this clearly would be. But he was 17 when he did it. I'd forgotten he was that young. We'll see what happens but it's possible he'll get a relatively short minimum term because of his age.
He'll be lucky to do his time unscathed or even do his time given the horrendous nature of his crimes.
I'm 99% sure you need another amendment to do that. If you look up the process for amending the US Constitution it's obviously not going to happen.
Oh yeah I forgot they'd been abolished. And yeah makes sense that life terms override them as they basically do the same thing in that you won't be released until deemed not a threat. I imagine he'll get life sentences for the attempted murder charges too so that'll be 13 life sentences where the minimums won't all be the same presumably.
We can live in hope though I suspect he'll have a level of protection. Hopefully a screw makes a 'mistake' one day which puts him contact with others.
If it was anyone else I'd say there was no chance but Trump is so unpredictable I suppose he might. I don't really see why he'd bother though. I doubt he'd even get the support of all the Republicans in Congress and I don't see any benefit to him if tries and fails.
Trump's speech sounded like something from a bad Marvel movie. He is absolutely crackers. The uk should have the balls to break off diplomatic relations with America. Trump is a danger to the world. Wondered if anyone else thinks he won't make the full term. Just think he will either go doolally, die on the job or get asked to step aside for Vance. I also think it will go alot worse this time.
I didn’t realise, until today, that Dartmoor Prison was closed due to having unsafe levels of radon gas throughout the facility. Apparently the government are paying the Duchy of Cornwall £1.5m per year for a 25 year contract, on the prison, that still has 23 years to run. You would hope that the future king of the country would see how unfair this is and cancel the contract so that the money could be used towards more important projects, but I won’t hold my breath.
I don't know about the other executive orders he's signing but this is a promising start. https://www.thefp.com/p/trumps-day-one-executive-order-male-female-gender-ideology-pronouns "Whatever faults Donald Trump may have, at least there is finally someone in power who knows what a woman is." https://www.spiked-online.com/2025/01/20/trump-is-right-to-take-on-transgender-lunacy/

For what it’s worth, I don’t think Musk meant it as a Nazi salute, but it’s another fantastic example of a stupid clever person.
