I had a quick look at his position heat map, especially from when he was on loan at Royal Antwerp, and he was always the more advanced midfielder out of the two in a 4-2-3-1. For Belgium u21s he even plays as a number 10.
I've never seen him play, but he describes himself as a defensive midfielder, so I assume that's what he is.
Slater described himself as a defensive midfielder in his interview when joining us on loan in League One. I think Matazo's probably similar to Leonardo Lopes.
He actually said 'I can play anywhere in central midfield, box to box, defending or attacking, I like to think I can play anywhere in midfield'.
Does make you wonder if the indications aren't looking great in relation to Zambrano's appeal, doesn't it? But then If Simons is going out, then perhaps we just think replacing like with like is a net gain in terms of quality?
Matazo looks to be replacing Simons and whatever happens, Zambrano's not going to be available this season.
Just because they’ve not been publicly announced doesn’t mean the deal isn’t done. Joseph trained today.
I don't know about that. the club knew what they were getting into. Bigger clubs, much bigger clubs had looked at him previously. The very fact that we showed him support (and I doubt it cost us a huge amount) will hopefully serve us well in the future. He could be worth a pretty penny in 2 years time.
How much resources has a loan signing from Ecuador taken up? His wages are probably similar to that of an academy player. If it means we’re in a strong position to sign him, once he is available it was a gamble worth taking
I’d let Simmons go, crooks more advanced and get another one in, you need at least 5 decent in the midfield , create competition and cover injuries. Don’t ask me how good this Matazo is though, I haven’t got a clue and I doubt anybody on here has. Need the wings sorting out though
