There's far too many coaches like that these days. I don't know if it's due to arrogance or dogma, but doing the same thing over and over again and failing each time, but then doing it again expecting something different is the definition of madness. You have to have some pragmatism and adaptability to each situation. It's not about abandoning your principles, but adapting to the situation in hand, earn the right to play the way you want yo play and if you don't have the players to play the way you want, adapt how you do it to get the best out of what you have at hand until you're able to get the players in to play how you want. That's why the great managers like Shankley, Paisley, Ferguson, Stein etc. were successful.
