Our goals for was boosted by a very strong start: Aug to October we bagged 23 goals, conceding just 9, so GD +14 ( in 12 matches) Since Novermber we’ve scored 16, conceding 13, so GD +3 ( in 14 matches) We are less clinical, but creating more chances and our GD ba the top two has dropped off. So yeah, I think we need to improve our goal scoring to get top 2. If you disagree, fair enough.
Think you can out the Connolly thing down to how well the club is run now just on a human level. brought him in, helped him sort his personal problems out and get up to speed, hasn’t got the game time he would want but ready to go elsewhere to get it so they haven’t held him back from doing it, good work from the club for me rather than letting him stew on the bench and risk his mental health being affected again. We are a very good club to come to now for players, something to be proud of. Not every success has to be for this club, but we can play a part in helping football develop.
furthermore on this point, it’s stands for the academy too and parents who may have multiple offers of their kids going to different academies. we have a proven pathway now to first team football, as proven as recently as Chris Rigg and Tommy Watson but they should also look at the amount of kids playing at such a high level all of which have came from our academy such as Sam Greenwood, Bali Mumba just to name a couple and their the one’s that we should also be proud of, as the club has developed them into that level of player who have us to thank for the career they have. so parents can take comfort in knowing that even if their Sunderland career doesn’t kick on then they should be able to have a good level of development to succeed elsewhere. a lot of good work from the club.
He was just a bit **** wasn't he. A bit of a nothing player. Just ratted about. No loss. Wage to put towards another player and he gets game time somewhere else.
I think that's a little unfair to the lad. Let's just say he didn't suit the system that we now play but that he played his part in the first half of the season. Thanks for the goal at Millwall and both parties move on.
Not sure if this has been posted already https://sportwitness.co.uk/sunderla...nt-for-january-signing-black-cats-need-e5-5m/ Sunderland receive double encouragement for January signing – Black Cats need €5.5m Earlier this week, claims from the UK stated Sunderland are keen on signing KVC Westerlo’s Matija Frigan in the winter market. These claims have reached the Belgian press, specifically Voetbal Nieuws, who then share their take on this case. The Jupiler Pro League side paid €5.5m plus bonuses to buy the striker from Croatian side HNK Rijeka in July 2023 and gave him a contract until 2028. Frigan managed five goals and an assist last season and has seven goals and three assists from 22 games this season. Despite this, the report says his performances have not fully convinced his club. Westerlo are fighting to avoid relegation while Sunderland are in contention to return to the Premier League. The Championship side are currently fourth in the table, three points behind leaders Leeds United. The outlet claims the Croatian ‘will be happy’ to leave his current employer for the Black Cats. Westerlo, for their part, have to raise funds to carry out new signings in the ongoing window, and would be willing to let Frigan leave. Voetbal Nieuws warn Sunderland they will have to bring in ‘millions of Euros’ considering Westerlo are tough negotiators. They state the Belgian club will at least want to recover the €5.5m they paid, to sanction his sale. Frigan and Westerlo’s stance will give encouragement for Régis Le Bris’ side to sign him in January.
Bit harsh. I don't think he had enough games to get up to speed, also we don't play to his strengths. I think he'll do well at Millwall and will be a good championship player.
Di Canio's Knees on RTG I haven’t been told anything for a while me, but I’ll tell you what I know for fact: Over a week ago we made an offer for a Prem striker to take him on loan until the end of the season, he’s out of contract in the summer anyway - don’t know how the talks have went. We have been in talks with Villa over Barry, but are one of 5 clubs who have made an offer - again, don’t know how the talks have went. We are interested in Cannon and have made an enquiry to Leicester for him - that’s ALL I know for absolute fact with this, it may well be true that we have made that loan to buy offer, but I can’t comment as I don’t know if it is true or not or if it’s just Nixon talking out his hole again. Similar situation as Cannon to Brereton - interested and enquired but don’t know any meat and bones of it. I don’t get to find out everything, so could one of the above be on the verge or even done? Absolutely. But I wouldn’t ever say anything I didn’t know. Sorry for sounding vague but I will only give facts and will never add legs to stories if I don’t know what’s actually going on.
Tend to agree. The signing never really sat well with me as I didn't see how he would ever fit into our formation/style of play. If his 4 months here has been enough to reset him and get him in a better place then great, but he's no loss to us...
You'd rather Sheffield Utd get him today than he chooses us on Monday? It's not really a saga at all. He's been recalled and 2 clubs have allegedly made bids in the last few days. Everything else is tabloid noise and endless speculation on social media. If you stop looking for the drama, everything doesn't feel so dramatic.
