Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has just told fans at a fan forum (yes, still going at midnight…) that Saints have recalled Shea Charles

Feel sorry for the lad. He's an important player, who plays 90mins every game in a side that is doing better than expected and still has something to fight for. Now he's coming back here to likely play a bit part role in a team that undervalued him last season (under the old manager), a team devoid of confidence, getting hammered every week and with nothing to play for. Only way I see this as particularly worthwhile is if he forms a partnership with Downes, plays every week, and shows that he can perform at PL level, but if that starts to happen before the end of January, presumably Chelsea recall Ugochukwu and we are in the same position with lack of midfielders.

I do get that it's a difficult situation for us though as we need another midfielder this season really to help us not be the worst PL team ever. I would just prioritise next season at this point, and that would mean leaving Charles to continue to blossom and build confidence at Sheff Wed ready to come back to us in the summer.

Apparently we had a deadline of last night to recall him. It had come out earlier in the window that Charles wanted to stay at Wednesday too. So wonder what prompted us to end the loan right at the last moment?

Who knows what’s going on here, sounds like the Sheff Wed owner was on a bit of a mad one yesterday.

“Of course we like him, but what can we do? It is out of our control.
I mentioned at the beginning my opinion; he is not ready for the Premier League.
Southampton in this situation he cannot help, Southampton need a better player than this...
Let’s see. If they do that, maybe we do something. Let’s see.
Someone damage us then we can damage them as well, let’s see.”

    Yep. He's nuts.

Wednesday fans are furious at their owner. Don't blame Saints for recalling him although they're gutted.

I am not sure about this.

We are DESPERATE for another DM. But we are already down. If we recall him, I hope we actually play him. Will be a huge waste if he sits on the bench.

Yeah agreed. We need to be playing him, in every sense.

I don’t agree with the decision, but now it’s done he has to play ahead of Ugo. Bit harsh on Ugo based on recent performances but we get no long term benefit of him having a good personal second half of the season now he is playing a role he’s more comfortable in. Play Charles, Downes, Aribo, Lallana, Smallbone all ahead of him as they are our players and the rest of the season is essentially pointless

There were rumours that Chelsea were going to recall Ugo. Maybe that will develop and explain this.

Agreed though, Charles has to be given a run of games at a minimum.

Damage us in return? That’s not how you run football clubs

I hope we tell them no. This level of pettiness is something I hope the club are above.

We need Charles badly. Very grateful to Rohl for getting the best out of him, and it's unfortunate on Wednesday, but that's the nature of the beast.

Get him in the team ahead of Ugo. See how he gets on.

Whilst it would be amusing, I don't think this is what is best for either Charles or Saints. For Saints, we should only have recalled him if we thought he would help on the pitch and were going to play him.

For Charles, the best place for him is to continue his good form where he is settled at Wednesday.

Why would we recall him to loan him out to Sheffield United? Sounds like bollocks that.

Almost certainly just a blades supporting reporter having a laugh.
