I'm a big fan of Cannon. He's strong, aggressive and a good finisher. I don't care about the price just like I wasn't about Clarke's price. For me, if we sign Cannon along with Le Fee it shows that the club have the ambition that matches than fans.
I’ve said through 3 links to Cannon that I don’t see it, I stand by that and I double down on it at 13. I don’t think he’s utter ****e or owt, I just don’t see it. Strikes me as one that will be ‘alright’ but never do a lot. He isn’t a kid. He probably would score goals here. I just can’t out finger on why it just doesn’t feel like the one to me and hasn’t historically. If he signs, he’s better than R9 like. On board with the ‘doesn’t matter if we go up’ craic like, essentially makes them free signings.
Seriously though, remember the conversations we were having in the summer about the club needing to be willing to spend a premium to get a striker in, and that’s why we struggled to get one in, because we’re so tight? we’ve come a long way my friends.
Yeah they’ve earned a good amount of trust, and the numbers from Nixon aren’t reliable. Still, they aren’t infallible. And I reflexively dislike ‘win now’ moves that hamper us if we do get promotion. I’d argue Cannon is comfortably the most risky of our buy now pay later deals.
absolutely agree he’s the most risky but I’m actually quite pleased the club are willing to take these risks. I think the level of risk taking is needed to get promotion, be it this year or future years
I always viewed Delap as far more the prem archetype. Stronger, more mobile. Cannon hasn’t given me the same vibe. Tallish, fastish, alright-ish in the air. A posh Daryl Murphy if you will. I’m joking, but if he was physically up to that league he’d have had a chance there with either Everton or Leicester IMO. Delap is a step change in strength pace and mobility.

Doesn't nixon reply saying it's 13m including add ons as in rising potentially to 13m Could easily be 8m and daft ones like so many goals and so many appearances which may take years to get to the full amount I rate cannon as a player and if RLB wants him I'm happy for the club to push the boat out to get him if we can afford it
he does reply that but his original story says £13m down payment. So either Nixon doesn’t know what down payment means, or he’s confused himself, or he’s making it all up.
If it is a reported £13m it almost certainly won't be up front, that will depend on things like appearances and goals etc. No doubt Le Fee will be the same and we all know strikers come at a premium. Birmingham spent more than £13m on Stansfield for example. Cannon is a very good finisher, and that graph the other day suggested he was only behind Isidor with finishing quality. Supply them both with better chances and they have the potential to score loads. Also Le Fee and Cannon would still only be ~£30m in transfers. Promotion is worth a guaranteed £100m and we also have some of the most saleable assets in the country. It's a risk worth taking and makes sense to me.
The club have been hard on Cannon for a long long time. He was up here when we were interested previously. So it's been close and interest both ways previously.
