I'll be waiting for John Percy to say something before I get excited though. Best in the business for Midlands football news.
I'm coming round to the idea. The club are being quite smart with this loans for Isidor, Le Fee and potentially Cannon. If we go up, the combined £30-40m or so for the 3 of them is a drop in the ocean. It's actually some really smart business by Speakman and co.
Worth pointing out that the way championship clubs go to the wall is they make bids like this but WITHOUT the “only if we’re promoted” obligation. doing it our way is pretty much risk free. Even if we then sell him for £10m we’d probably accept that £3m loss as being worth the risk / reward
Genuinely think there’s a half decent chance that Cannon is a flop too. At least a flop relative to that price. I wouldn’t put massive money on him shifting Isidor this season. Then if we have gone up we’ve got a £13m striker who in my view isn’t gonna warrant the game time he’d need to make him into a pl striker. Instead we loan him to the champ and try to recoup what we can from a promotion chaser.
basically what Leicester have done. Expect they signed him outright rather than our less risky option.
I said earlier that Nixon is a crap writer and makes things very unclear. Feel like he's just proving my point tbh
Pretty sure he has to be recalled by midnight. Leicester will want him off the books again as quickly as possible so think it happens fairly quickly.
He has to be recalled by midnight but Leicester can keep playing us off against Sheff Utd until the 3rd of February. This could rumble.
Yet to be convinced about Cannon but he absolutely fits the model. This is a million miles away from Will Grigg. He's 21 just failed to make it at prem club but massive potential similar to the likes of Ballard. His record and playing style is very similar to Liam Delap. Like I say not 100% convinced about him but its the kind of forward we need who offers something a bit different More direct more physical.
Also and I mean this tongue in cheek. Sunderland fans : omg why won’t we spend on a striker?!?!? also Sunderland fans : noooo not that much!
While that’s true I’m fairly sure that there’s better and more effective ways to help us both this season and next than this deal. I guess if he genuinely contributes this season then we’ve got low cost help where we’ve kicked the can of payment and disposal down the line. And he may well really kick on. If not, though, it’s a bit of fodder for the ‘show some ambition’ crew - without actually helping us much.
Agree. Also if we go up with him, chances are he has played a good part in our success and his value increases if we decide to sell him. Although at his age, if he’s playing well for us you’ve got to think he has a good chance of him being able to step up. wonder who is leaking it. Agree with scout73 that the most likely answer is Leicester trying to create a bidding war. Hope not as would be a statement signing.
You’re almost certainly right that there’s better “value” out there. But can those options come straight in and contribute immediately, knowing how to play in this league? Hypothetical question. I trust the club and RLB in balancing the risk / reward of stuff like this. The club have proven they won’t spend unless they think it’s worth it.
