CHRIS SUTTON HAS GONE FOR 1:1 DRAW. City Ground, 20:00 GMT Is it fair to say Liverpool have gone a little bit flat recently? That is probably a bit harsh, because they only lost narrowly to Tottenham in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, and they still should have beaten Manchester United in their last league game despite an underwhelming performance - they just weren't ruthless enough. Arne Slot's side are still six points ahead of Arsenal and Forest, with a game in hand, but I think they could drop more points here too. The Forest defence has been formidable and 'The Wood Chopper' [Chris Wood] up front has been superb. The likes of Morgan Gibbs-White have really impressed me as well. Basically, this is going to be a very tight game with not many goals in it, and I am not going to back against Forest even if there are many ways where I think Liverpool might sneak a victory. You have got to earn the right to win the Premier League, and Liverpool have done brilliantly so far. When you are in a title race, there are always moments in the season where things can go against you a little bit, like they did against United, but they did not lose. This might be a period where they do stumble a bit but the teams below them are going to have to really sustain their push. That's not really happened so far because Arsenal and Chelsea are both having a bit of a wobble. If Liverpool do drop more points here, those two sides really need to make the most of it. Sutton's prediction: 1-1 JONES KNOWS BEST HAS GONE FOR 1:1 DRAW TOO. Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool, Tuesday 8pm Liverpool at 8/13 with Sky Bet feels a little disrespectful to Nottingham Forest, who will make this a very tough evening for Arne Slot's men. Would a point be a bad result for the away side? I think Slot would take that right now. All Liverpool's Premier League goals and highlights In what is likely to be an intense clash under the City Ground lights, Trent Alexander-Arnold could be out with a point to prove after his sloppy and sulky performance in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United. His tackle numbers interest me based on his averages this season under Slot, which are currently tracking at the 2.8 per-game mark. He's an odds-against price of 5/4 with Sky Bet to make three or more tackles. SCORE PREDICTION: 1-1
I'd take a draw to keep forest at arms length. But we would need spurs to do us a favour and we will be letting city and chelsea back into it. This is the game to prove hat your credentials are. Win and you are champions elect in the media. (we were after beating leicester 4-0 in 2019/20) Lose and you are bottlers Draw and youare probably called bottlers too. When you look at forest results the only game they lost at home was newcastle 3-1. they did lose 0-1 to fulham off a pen back in spetember. the interesting thing about that newcastle game is forest scored first and led at half time but newcastle came back. Newcastle are a big strong powerful side but they scored off an error in clearning the ball form a corner. Forest then were countered on for 2-1 and again for gordon for a late third. What does that tell us? for me: 1. do nolet them get a lead. 2. you can get a bit of luck yourself 3. they can't chase games well themselves and are vunerable to the fast counter. I think forest will however approach this game like as if its away and thier fans will lap it up. 30% possession max and they simply won't come out and so counter attack goals will be very tough to get. We need to be patient and not over commit. No stupid runs forward and no midfielder getting aehad of the ball bar szoboszlai. 0-0 is a good result for us too! Then we need a lucky break or a good bit of play or a pen or whatever to score one. if we do then they have to come out and we shoudl then hit on the counter and over the top. Oh and my absolute pet peeve with LFC. IF we have an attacking free or corner and its cleared for **** sake don't try to control it or let it bounce. Head it back in high or put it wade first time. IF they win a first ball after our attacking set peice then foul instantly. Our men on the edge of bax need to roated and take the yellows. no breaks allowed. I do not want to see our players hang round the opponents penalty area as well. vvd get the **** back.
City ground is always a difficult place to go even when Forest are facing relegation .I believe Forest will be happy with a draw, but we need to win.
Think was some crazy stat that they’ve scored the first goal in 17 games this season (across all comps) and as you say rarely lose when that happens. Very good defensively so if they do get that opening goal then have even more reason to sit back and defend it. Key is to get that first goal and force them to open up and make them go toe to toe. However really have to be careful not to force that first goal as they have decent wide players who can break quickly in the counter and it’s how they’ve hurt teams
yes. my view of the set up is: They will sit right off and let vvd and konate have it, theres no point alisson dicking about with it too much as they simply don't all push up. to make space for a salah run. So: --------------------------------Alisson (gap between lines as a result of forest not pushing on) ---------------------------- Konate - VVD -------------Trent Gravenberch Macalllister Robertson. (a tight 4 in width of pen area but full backs go wide if closed down) Salah----------------------------Szoboszlai--------------------------- gakpo (wingers must be really wide to stretch the game) -----------------------------------diaz (with szoboszlai support) this tight 4 allows trenrt to get back to rb and gravenbech/macallister mop up what we cannot do do is what i'm afraid we will do ---------------------------- Konate - VVD -- Robertson --------------------------------Trent Gravenberch Salah----------------------------Macallister--------------------------- gakpo -----------------------------------Szoboszlai diaz if we do this then they will see no cover from trent, kanate pulled wide and then gaps appearing for wood and the opposing winger. they get a 1 on 1 each in the box. This is all about intent. We will know very quickly just watching robertson and macallister. Don't concede. Thats forest philospohy. they don't want to have much of the ball, they just want to get it and go but then be back in shape before anyone can counter attack them. We have to be able to get to htose wingers on the break and wither win it or chop them down. We have 2 full backs for the bench and asl oa jones so plenty of cards to take. We should also be seeing that its oliver in charge and he will allow absolute murder in terms of fouls but one bit of back chat and you are booked. Use it. they have taken quite a number of losses buit all to good teams. 3-0 v arsenal away. 3-0 to city away. 0-1 to fulham at home. 1-3 to newcastle at home. so you can imagine off 16 other games they must have only conceded 9 goals total. their home record is played 9, won 5, drawn 2 lost 2. (8th in the tbale. Scored 11, conceded 7. (take out the losses and thats played 7 conceded 3 their away record is played 11 won 7 drawn 2 lost 2 with socred 18 concded 12. (2nd in table) remmebr they lost 6 goals to arsenal and city so its played 9 conceded 6 away. if anything they can be thinking that they are actually closer than it might look as they have more home games to come. they seem to play the same home or away. Maybe at home they have actually under performed and need that away excuse to park the bus. who knows.
I know they're a tough team to beat this year, but I won't be happy with a draw. We've lost too many points recently and we're losing some of that inertia we had early on. It's a tough call I know, but three points is important here.
in the grand scheme yes. but i'd rather 1 than 0 at the same time. If we draw the block of 4 will compete with 8 points. same as the last block then on we go to the next one with brentford, bournemouth, everton and ipswich if we took 10 out of 12 then its great but we would still have to go win those next 4 to win the title.
Obviously a draw would be better than a loss... I'm just worried we seem to be getting too many results that aren't wins the last few months. Failing to win can be habit forming.
For me a win today would be a much needed vibe change - personally I'd be mildly surprised if we do win, I'm expecting a draw tbh.
This is the game where we separate boys from men.To win the title we need to win: though this will not decide where the title is going .
We should be absolutely chomping at the bit here and the seniors within the squad should've been making it crystal clear with their attitude that this one is huge.
Our next five fixtures makes this game important. 1.Brentford (A) Good at home 2.Ipswich. (H) Fighting Relegation 3.Tottenham(H) Bitter 4 Wolves (H) Fighting Relegation 5. Manchester City (A) Fighting for Top 4
At his best, this type of game would potentially be made for him. Think it's too early for him though.
