... and the money that goes with it. 32 minutes - "In a revamp of the Welsh Cup, Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham and Newport will participate in the tournament, which has previously been limited to only teams competing in the Welsh league. The four clubs' votes of approval also concerned revenue sharing."
So that competition will become a closed shop then with those 4 taking turns to win it, then get extra money from Europe.
As a guess I'd say they're hoping to make more cash from playing Cardiff than Yprovdiv Utd away with all the travelling expense etc. If they can sell the TV rights they might be better off as well ... ... the trouble is the novelty will wear off and the English League clubs will complain about too many fixtures. It would truly stink if an English game is ever postponed because of this.
Hard to rule anything out these days, a game that was largely fine as it was is slowly being killed by greed
What's the history on why they can compete in the English league anyway? I've never understood nor liked that.
Something about a club playing in a League deemed to below some standard or other I think. Fair enough perhaps, but not when they retreat into that world for clear advantage in the league they are actually playing in.
It's a long and complicated shambles that started over 100 years ago when they were invited to play in England. They didn't have a league and when they eventually managed to arrange one some clubs didn't want to return. UEFA, FAW, etc have all had court cases etc, but it's all a mess that's quite embarrassing tbh.
Feel sorry for the clubs in the Welsh leagues, our lass has family members closely associated to havardfordwest and I can imagine they're not happy. All the clubs should stick together and stop the Welsh fa letting it happen
Joke for the Welsh clubs that compete every year for the chance at Europe. This lot will swan in and clean up every year.
It always used to be this way. I remember all of the teams from Wales playing in the Cup Winners Cup. I think I am right that Newport County got to the last 8 under the management of one Len Ashurst.
Wrexham clearly out Wales on the map. ****e programme. Just something more to put in the show as Wrexham will probably win it evey year. Not a jealously thing, but that whole situation is a joke.
Just like most initiatives, in the FA Cup, etc, this is a case of making things worse by improving them. Europe, during and after the time when Celtic were Champions was absolutely massive ... ... it's now such a mess that I, and probably many others, have no idea what all the competitions and rules are about. Clubs I've never heard of appear and disappear almost without trace. I always wanted us to get into Europe, now the appeal has virtually gone.
