Well I had a good day at the game. Said before I was taking my disabled grandson for his first game. Staff were really good with him, and very helpful. Wasn’t sure whether he’d want to even go in the ground, let alone stay for long, but he loved the walk up and going in (although we nipped through the disabled access so didn’t have to queue.) and the whole concourse experience when we wandered around there. Free fruit for kids is good too btw. He did watch his iPad a bit first half, but he uses that to regulate his emotions and it worked really well. Whenever excitement built when we attacked he put his iPad down and watched and clapped along with everyone else. Used the quiet room at half time which was great, and he enjoyed playing foosball on the concourse. We left around 75 mins because he’d had enough (not that I disagreed!) but all in all it was a nice day. He is able to tell people he went, same as his brother has, and he enjoyed it, and he’s got his programme which he was reading when we got back. Game wise I thought we looked ok first half, although still let them have a few easy breaks. If we scored first half I think we’d win comfortably, but we didn’t so that’s how it goes.
These cup games are so frustrating every year. We get a nice easy tie, you think you're gonna see some fringe players get a game, a chance for us to score a few against a weaker side than we usually have to play and it should be a nice pleasant break from the usual frustrations. But it never is. I said last week that maybe the Leeds game was the right sort of game for Kamara; less possession so not having to break down a defence, and having a bit of time to use his quality when we do get a break. Today reinforced that view for me. It's hard to get any use out of him against a team that's sitting back. The one time he did threaten was when they'd pushed up high and he ran in behind, crap decision not to just shoot and then to go down fairly softly which probably caused the ref's reluctance to give the obvious red. But even so, what an absolutely shocking decision that was. If it had been 30 yards further from goal, and a defender had fouled him from behind instead of the keeper, it still would've been a clear red. It's not even last man, the last man was already out of the picture. It was a very strange refereeing performance in lots of ways. Anyway, we can't blame that for losing. We had other opportunities and Kamara should've scored that one before the keeper had a chance to foul him anyway. Even on penalties we should be winning when we've scored our first 4 and they've missed one.
why? playing in a certain position doesn't make you a natural penalty taker. I played up top of left wing a fair amount of my career and I am a fkn dreadful penalty taker! Scored more free kicks than pens and no idea why! All about confidence and macca and Coyle both took theirs with bags of confidence
There needs to be a serious investigation into what has gone on with our pitch. Spent well over £1.5mil on it and it looks worse. It’s an absolute disgrace.
Oh, and to hark back to an argument from a few weeks ago. It is absolutely crazy that some people think Drameh is the luxury, more skillful option at right back. He's a good athlete and defender but his decision making on the ball, and execution for that matter, are so so poor.
I agree with that. If he didn’t feel like stepping up then it is what it is. Better that than he be forced to do it.
No ****s given for a Mickey Mouse cup hence the reason I watched on the today rather than attend in person but does reenforce the need for those incoming 6 or 7 players and that they need to be better than what’s already here.
I dont think its a coincidence In our 6 pen takers Jones, slater, macca and coyle were 4 of them Other players bottleless ****s
We do need to try stop this constant flip of reactions based on results. We know the squad is poor but results have seen an upturn since Selles came in. We’ll stay up fairly comfortably if we maintain it for the rest of the season, and I think we’ll only get better
