Very surprised to see so many favouring the FA Cup. Every club wants to be in the Prem. you see the best players in the world, you attract the better players to ur club and okay we may mot be winning it but its the only place the club will push on for there future. I get the buzz of winning the FA Cup but it really isnt what it used to be is it? nobody takes it serious now. Ans hand on heart how many can name the last 3 winners I know i cant.
Ok let’s just stay in the championship, win just enough points to avoid relegation, and concentrate on winning the FA Cup every season. At least we can see us choke at Wembley more often.
Reality Is if club got everything right over coming seasons promotion, new team manager etc the very best we could aim for is about eight in pl. this lot we have will make lots of mistakes, they already have, so best we can hope for in a decade is to be a Bournemouth or Brentford. Ground will still be the same as the fear of relegation will still be a reality. So given the choice of that or winning lots of games in a league that’s our level and winning an fa cup it’s an easy choice. We are in the revolving door league with seven or eight others, blunts, Burnley, Southampton etc who will always be swapping places between the two leagues
I liked my earlier suggestion . That way we have the Cup win, Euro football and delayed promotion till 2026. Add to that a new stadium (obviously when we’re in the PL) and slow progression into a top half team. We have to accept that breaking into the top 6 is unlikely, but not impossible. What’s not to like.
My mate at work supports WBA and just yesterday we were speaking about the FA cup, WBA have Bournemouth and my immediate thought was hard game. It then got me thinking about Bournemouth and the realisation they are miles ahead of us so I looked up the recent history on Wiki They went into administration in 2008 and this will be their 10th year consecutive year in the PL, staggering when you look at their average league attendance of just 11,200
It’s promotion for me. Main reason is I think the FA cup is dead. It’s such a shame as it used to be such an important competition… in the dna of football fans everywhere. Once teams started playing reserve teams it just lost its value. FA cup final day was a major highlight of the sporting calendar. I can’t remember the last time I watched it. I couldn’t tell you who won it last year.
They’ve clearly got all or most things right over last decade so of course it can be done. Musk rumoured to be buying Liverpool for 8bn. There was a time we were as big a club as Liverpool. Shows all the wrong turns we’ve taken and we’re still taking them.
A friend of mine was one of the owners who took them out of administration. He is not well liked down there though, he's probably their equivalent of Bates to us. However they haven't been in the Premier League for 10 consecutive years, they have been in the Premier League for 7 out of the last 9 years. They were in the Championship in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, although they are a well organised run club and thus miles ahead of us. Their Russian owner at the time, was the 11th most wealthiest owner running a premier league club, before selling up in 2022, when he was the 17th wealthiest Premier league club owner
Promotion. Why bother otherwise? Do we play enough games to ensure we stay in the Championship and then play the U18s for the rest of the season?
