Yes I read on here that Donny had set a higher price than city would have preferred. Might be unconnected

I agree with kal, he was average. He went through every division and into the prem league.
His attitude made up for what he lacked ability wise.
I think he came back from a potentially career ending injury.
If that’s average then I’d be very happy with it

My opinion, Ashbee was, technically, always just below what you would want in all the divisions he played in - his rate of development was amazing for an older player.

In league 2, he was ok for a captain, but we didn't expect him to make the step up to league 1.
Then, in league 1, he was ok for a captain, but we didn't expect him to make the step up.
    Then, in the championship...

And so on. The fact that the same "ok" player in league 2 made it to being an "ok" player in the prem shows what the power of mental strength can do, Ashbee forced himself to make the step up and as has been said, his tackling, positioning, drive, organisation and football brain carried him when his technical skills were not quite enough.

Not at this time. My snout is Hull FC through and through and is more interested in them than City at the moment.

My strongest, of many, abiding memories of Ash was when he strode out of the tunnel at the then KCOM, his chest stuck out with pride, determination etched on his face, in the first top tier game against Fulham, body language announcing to the Premier League ‘I’ve arrived’.

Unfortunately I doubt that there’ll ever be another captain of his ilk playing for City.

I don't believe what I read on here sometimes. How can anyone even question the ability of the greatest club captain this club has ever had? Even if he had one leg and played in a blindfold what Ian Ashbee achieved as captain of this club to take us from the old division 4 to the Premier League was truly amazing and will never be repeated. There should be a statue outside the stadium to this man, he is a club legend in every sense of the word. To even question his playing ability is an insult to him and all he stood for.

Well he talks out of his arse and he has Montezuma's Revenge then it would stop him tweeting whilst he's on the throne.

Ashbee wouldn’t make it in todays championship let alone the premier league.

Exactly. Plus most teams are now utilising modern strategies like the double pivot or a reginageorge and there is just no place for a big clobber like him in todays game at the higher levels.

People questioned Ash every year. I remember it vividly and I was only about 10 years old in Division 3 when we got promoted.

There's a clip from Ben Fosters pod cast where they're talking about Jordan Henderson at Liverpool and the incredible influence he had on the game just by talking and shouting throughout the whole game, something that I think footballers really notice and respect on the pitch but in the stands you just don't hear it so it passes you by a bit. They could've been talking about Ash.
