Good Morning. It's Wednesday 8th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Injury to striker could scupper Joffy move Hull City have emerged as favourites to land Leeds striker Joe Gelhardt this month, though much will depend on strike partner Patrick Bamford. Joffy has amassed just nine minutes of league game time all season, but a hamstring injury to Patrick Bamford on New Year's Day could scupper his temporary exit. News from the Thorp Arch indicates that Leeds are only prepared to let one of them go, and with Paddy's injury record, they don't want to leave themselves light up-front! The reality of the situation is far more straight forward. Even if Piroe, Joseph and Bamford were all unavailable, you have to ask yourself how much game time would the 22yo actually get? The gaffer is far more likely to call upon Solomon, Ramazani or even James to lead the line before considering the former England youth ace. He (along with Crew, Debayo and Chambers) need minutes. There's only so much they'll gain in training; an exercise to maintain fitness and practice drills. Between the four of them they have 30 minutes of league game time, whereas they could be playing week in-week out in the lower leagues gaining strength and developing their trades. please log in to view this image Froston warns of complacency Nancy Froston's final dispatch for The Athletic (before Beren Cross takes over) serves as a timely reminder for Leeds United, cautioning against complacency. Her analysis underscores the reality that, mirroring the previous season, Leeds are embroiled in a fiercely contested four-way battle for the top spots, with just three points separating them from Sunderland (in fourth). Murmurs of discontent are growing amongst the Elland Road faithful regarding the lack of transfer activity. Whilst betting sites, pundits and fans continue to big up Leeds chances (again), a cold dose of reality may be exactly what the club needs this month. "In their pursuit of promotion, but performances such as this, wastefully throwing away a two-goal lead, threaten to catch up with them. The gap to second- and third-placed chasers Burnley and Sheffield United is now trimmed to a point after they both won away matches yesterday and Farke’s team cannot afford to let that margin slip further after last year’s fruitless, bruising, 90-point season that ended in play-off final defeat." please log in to view this image
Sorry but still trying to come to terms with the weekend clusterfck, more I watch the highlights the more I think he has to go, as for people thinking and stating we may make a mistake in getting rid of him I am totally baffled by them.
I understand the situation with Joffy but it also states we are not wanting to shell out any cash on a replacement or are even looking for one. Bamford going back on the injury table means any slight chance of moving him out are virtually gone nobody is going to shell out cash that we will be wanting for him and why should he kick up a fuss for a move when hes getting mega bucks sitting with his fingers up his arse. also Its pointless sending him or Joffy out on loans as we lose bodies and we don't have many to start with. I was hoping both would go but it looks like we deffo stuck with one now looking like both. Personally think Farke is happy with his squad and if anyone does come in it will be a 1 in 1 out sort of thing. But surely we have to try and take advantage of the loan market We are in the driving seat to take the best on offer being where we are. Some Prem teams will be afraid to loan a player to another Prem Team as it would strengthen them. but, then its a ask for that player to drop a division. Its really down to who wants game time to showcase themselves and get themselves back in the headlines. Still Lots of rumours from Yep and people you more rely on we aint going to do nowt I just hope they know what they are doing because others around us are already making moves.
Do we need someone else, apart from a keeper we’re not going to afford better than Piroe and the rest of the squad is very strong. I was on the Southampton forum and they are so relieved to get rid of Bereton Diaz, some stating he is possibly the worst player to ever wear their shirt. We’re scoring goals, we’re creating chances, we don’t need wholesale change
That's the big question isn't it mate. if we don't go up its a massive yes we did. we do go up it's a massive pat on the back well done. I don't think we need wholesale changes either maybe just a couple of loans to keep it healthy if the shyte hits the fan with injuries suspensions out of form etc. its a tough one aint it because we sit top of the table and scored the most goals and creating and not very shabby at the back.
I would love us to chance our arm and try for Kelleher at Liverpool, a loan with an obligation to buy if we’re promoted. The drawback is, they are still in all competitions so his likely to get game time there and if (a big if) we did get him he’d likely want a relegation clause for the next season should we go up. Can’t say I’ve been impressed with the keeper names we’ve been linked to so far.
We had options when players were out of form last season and Farke refused to change it. I just look at our team selection now and think what a great problem to have, should we start Tanaka and Rothwell, should we play Ampadu, what about when Gruev returns. Out wide, Ramazani and James or Gnonto and Solomon, we’ve got some great options. I wouldn’t mind a new LB or CB to replace Wober but even then they’d have to be special to replace Ampadu, Rodon and Struijk
Shame they’re not interested in Meslier. I remember years ago one of our keepers going to Arsenal to be coached, I did wonder if a top PL coach could help Meslier.
Nah, Meslier is a lost cause, nobody will touch him with a barge pole, he would have a PL goalkeeping coach on suicide watch within a month.
Think part of the problem with anyone joining is game time. DF certainly seems to have strong favourites for pretty much every position, except when injuries or suspensions force change. Yes he’s rotated midfield and upfront a bit but generally if fit, his defence picks itself. The dilemma is whether he’d play any players, brought in without his agreement. Personally I’d switch keepers, I’d give Darlow a chance to prove himself. As someone said previously he’s seemingly done ok for Wales, has played with Amps/Rodon and for that matter James (who would be a potential out for the longer ball). I have little confidence in Mes, and more importantly I don’t think those in front of him do either. I don’t think there’s a lot wrong but we need to build confidence by winning on Saturday, and taking that into the next game. I never really believed we’d bring anyone in, though I’d love another natural left footed LWB or LB, so can’t see us doing any or much business.
