Another atmospheric sunset at the small holding. The dogs have less of an issue with cold feet than I do.
Frozen pipes and a reluctant tractor were the big challenges. Funnily enough, the snow seems to have insulated the ground. Under the snow its still soft.
Heated blanket over the tractor engine at night? Pipe insulation? Yes, I've been watching too much YouTube about how farmsteads cope in Alaskan and Canadian winters.
That's a whole different ball game. I've been lagging pipes with our daughter, but not got as far as heating the engine block.
That brings back memories! Every ****ing Christmas.....up the woods, digging up pipes and rodding out the ice! Couldn't wait it out......hot water boils or tank blows!!!
Well, after a couple weeks of sub zero temperatures, everything has thawed, but its now rain and gales. No real damage from the last storm, though a calf hut ended up in a neighbour's garden. They weren't impressed. They grumble about everything. They moved to live in the countryside, but don't seem to enjoy living in the countryside. They moan when we do fieldwork with the tractor. They don't like the smell when a neighbouring farmer is tanking slurry. They don't like the horses in our field and don't like our dogs running free on our land. Hey ho. With the thaw, our club trout lake is now clear and we've managed to put 200+ trout in. Its so windy though, no-one is fishing. 40mph winds again today and tomorrow. Our daughter is 30 on Tuesday so she had a party on Friday. At least I didn't have to pay for it. The weather stopped a few of her friends travelling but it was a good evening. We're going out for a meal with her and her partner on Tuesday when I will be paying. The nights are drawing out, but we could do with a bit of calmer weather. Stroll on spring.
We were battered by the storm earlier today with a tree down onto a neighbour's shed. No casualties thank goodness.
Bet he's milking his generosity for all it's worth??? I know, I know, I'll get my coat on the way out... Actually, given it's a bit nippy out I'll get my udder one with the fleecy lining...
Fears realised... Horrid score line in the end and very much men v boys from the bits I dared to watch...
