Exactly when have his performances justified it in the last 12 months? And if the gaffer sees him one of our best players, then he doesn't spend 90+ mins on the bench against league leaders and play a kid in his place. Top earners need to be playing. 3 managers now have preferred either Jacob or a right back in his place.
Ok. I was going on memory which is probably not wise these days. I was thinking particularly the Blackburn game when Coyle came on for Jacobs and even though he’s not at his best, looked a different level. Also Giles did come on at left back at half time vs Boro and (despite them overwhelming us 2nd half), did a good job on Jones and then Doak. However where I got it wrong, is that he replaced Drameh (before you correct me, I am now aware Coyle was LB and move to RB when Drameh went off) and not Jacobs. Considering there’s a game and a half (without even looking) that Jacob missed over Xmas, this ‘best left back over Xmas period’ seems even more odd.
It shouldn't even be a decision though. He's supposed to be the best fullback in the League and that's what justified his outlay. If he was fancied, Jacob, Drameh and Coyle wouldn't be starting ahead of him.
Depends on the bottle in the room. I honestly couldn’t say what it’s like but I would hope that they see performances justify playing not wages. Omur is in the same boat and is losing minutes to slater and Puerta who I suspect are on a lot less
Look, his head was turned and he hasn't been at it. His head is north of the Tees It's pretty plainly obvious. Liam preferred Jacob, Walter preferred Drameh, Sellles gave Giles a chance and has also preferred Jacob latterly also.
Just read Derby’s January transfer thread - it’s just all the same names that all clubs fans are discussing… Louie Barry Joe Geldhardt Andre Gray Isaac Hayden…etc They thought they had Barry sown up, but would hate to lose out to one of their relegation rivals
Saw a form table that had Derby in plum relegation form. Think it was the last 12 games. They’re a sneaky team to fall into the trap
I’ve a feeling both us and Portsmouth will survive. Someone could sink like a stone and I still think Derby and Oxford have poor quality squads, which may show later in the season.
He was injured over the Xmas period too. Neither started vs Boro and he preferred Giles off the bench to replace Drameh and he did nothing wrong to warrant being dropped vs Leeds. I suspect jury is still out for Selles. Jacob played his best game yet for City vs Leeds, so probably has the edge now. I have family member and two mates all unlinked with each other who are Boro pass holders. They all would welcome Giles back. In fact when I said the other day, most City fans would drive him there, one suggested not to worry, they’d do it. It hasn’t worked at City, but there’s clearly a top player there. I don’t think he fitted into Liam’s style.the number of times he had the opportunity to overlap Philo and Zarouri which was supposedly his forte but he was clearly under instruction not to. He probably wasn’t the only player who got lost under Walt ball. Under Selles, prior to Xmas, I thought he was starting to look much more confident and apart from getting injured, has done nothing wrong since. It’d be a shame to see us throw away a £4m asset. I’d prefer to hang on and see if Selles can get a tune out of him.
You can use the same argument for Jacob. He had his best performances previously under LR and now seems to have found form again?
Not sure, but he came off injured vs Preston at half time and then missed Blackburn. So he may not have been fully fit, especially for two games in three days vs two top teams. He was chosen ahead of Jacob for second half vs Boro and was pretty much faultless, so it may have been fitness or Selles thought Jacobs was a better fit for that game.
I suspect we can for every player at City and some have shown improvements already. Funny, I never saw it under Liam for Jacob. For me he’s an old style left back without the strength, height or actually much. Tin hat on again.
There's some Emperor's New Clothesism going on with Giles, to be sure. Boro fans say he's the greatest left sided player in the league, which leads to soshul meedeer pundits saying he's the greatest left sided player in the league, so commentators start saying that he's the greatest left sided player in the league, and lo and behold some of our fans start saying that he's the greatest left sided player in the league. FACT is that Giles is in the altogether, he's altogether as **** as the day that he was born.
