Blue, you know the deal between our clubs, it’s us that unloads our $hite on you, not the other way around
What do you make of this going forward?..................... https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/new-year-message-supporters-chair-board I'll just pull out an extract "debt free"? Another financial priority of the Board of Directors is to ensure that the Club is debt free. The Club has no debt to any financial institution, be it banks, hedge funds or any other mezzanine financiers. The Club does not want to be burdened with interest charges that have cost other clubs dearly. I thought the club owed Dalman's financial business in loans of about £10M at around 9% interest????
I think the loan shown in the last City accounts was provided one of Dalman's investment companies not himself personally?
The other point I picked up on is the recruitment team providing support to management in creating the team. That being the case then who was responsible for recommending Ugbo and Kanga, and why do they still have a job?
It’s just so unconvincing. I mean how can this be taken seriously when the owner has no person with football expertise to call on to give necessary expertise? How is day to day dialogue with his lap dogs who know SFA about what’s needed to advance the football side of the business going to be beneficial to getting into the PL? It seems all they’re concerned with is the balance sheet which of course is more their expertise and needs to be attended to but what else?
The issue they have themselves is that the balance sheet relies on the footballing expertise. Footballing nous on the board would make their balance sheet easier to manage.
Thought I’d use this thread to show the teams in our half of the table who we have to face in the run in. It’s been the same for this and last season: we rarely turn up against the teams competing at the other end. We play whether it be home or away 8 out of the 11 teams in the table. If we’re not going to get anything from the games left versus the top 10 teams - the odd draw perhaps - we’ve got to get the 20 odd points from these games.
Off the top of my head, half asleep, I counted 14 points off the 8 teams leaving another 5 points to be found against the top half teams. Could be a nail biting remainder of the season!
You've also got to realise that many of those other sides down there have to play each other as well. I haven't checked out each one's fixtures, but they sure as hell all can't get 3 points from those games. The danger would be that a couple of those sides will get some "freak" results against better clubs and go on a run whilst we stagnate. That's something we have to avoid by putting yesterday's footballing lesson behind us and take our chances against our more or less equals in this division - not have to pick up points against patently superior footballing sides to survive. That Leeds game shouldn't have to be a wake up call as to where we are - just confirm it.
I’m of the school where we should concern ourselves on getting enough points and not seek to rely on other teams results hence I deliberately omitted that factor, but I’m enough of a realist to know it’s an inevitable factor. The long, tall and short of it is City need to get @50 points to survive.
Not necessarily - teams have stayed up with lower 40's points recently. Reading a couple seasons back with 43 and Derby with 44 the year before. I think Millwall escaped with around 43 points a couple of years back as well - I also seem to remember someone staying up with 41. Brum going down with 50 last season was exceptional - but I wouldn't want to chance that.
If you're in a group of people being chased by a lion, you don't need to outrun the lion. You just need to outrun one of the group. In our situation it's get more points than 3 in our group, probably from Swansea down. And just try and control the things we can. Get points where we can.
Just looked at Pompey as an instance. As well as us, they've got Hull, Derby, Luton and Plymouth - all below us in the table at the moment. We need to focus on a result down there, keep them where they are, and let the rest fight over the points between themselves.
Whatever we do when we play eg Sunderland and Burnley soon is not to roll over so easily. Any points garnered from those games will be a bonus. Fans old enough to recall the series of relegation scraps in the 70’s will remember the fighting spirit those players had.
I'm not deliberately trying to disagree with you Nin, but we didn't exactly roll over at Leeds - they were far too good for us and we couldn't cope with them. I don't believe anyone "gave up" and rolled over. Such was their superiority, they just played us off the park and we had no answer. Given that scenario, I'd be surprised if we picked up many more points from any of the upcoming games against the current holders of the top 6 places, but battling performances playing at home against the likes of the Wurzels and Wendies to come should see us through. Getting the majority of the points available from games with those around us is obviously key, and that's where I think we all agree. Losing to those currently below us is going to impact far more than that roasting we got at Leeds..
