We've already got options this season for that role - Siopis, Ralls, Robertson, Chambers, Rinomohta and even Wintle if he's brought back. With Turnbull and Rambo out, splash any cash available on a decent No.10 instead of waiting for Colwill to come good.
Warren Davis?.......................... https://www.footballinsider247.com/...-preston-north-end-in-chase-for-warren-davis/
Another name surfaces, via Glen apparently, Malcolm Ebiowei, from Palace. 44 appearances across a variety of clubs, 1 goal. That's a no from me although with our recruitment guys they will fancy a chance at making him great.
Unless we get a striker or two in, I'd hang on to him. The only way either of us would benefit by him staying with us is if we get rid of a few other midfielders. Its quite congested in there numbers wise. Unless he's going to get game time he might as well stay where he is. Perhaps we should bring him back and loan out his brother. The other concern I have is too many youngsters playing at the same time. Its ok having any one or two of half a dozen or so youngsters we have in and around the first team squad at the moment. Playing 4 or 5 at the same time would put a lot of pressure on an inexperienced line up. Last night didn't go badly, but we've been burnt in the past when playing with a very young side. Having old heads in the spine of the team is essential to talk the youngsters through a game. Similarly, a young full back with and experienced CB inside them and an experienced winger in front of them is one thing, young full back, CB and wing on the same side of the team something totally different. Its exciting to see all the youngsters coming through. I'd love to see a side with 50% home grown talent. It is unrealistic to think we're ready, or in a league position, to risk it.
Yes, there has to be a balance. Last night was a bit different as a free shot cup game against opposition also playing a number of youngsters. Riza looks to have got it right recently and I think he will continue doing so. If we get in a few new signings then the opportunities for the young guys will reduce but the likes of Ashford and Reindorf, when fit and not loaned out, deserve to be in match day 20's. Others should get a shot also if only by rotation.
A few games in the match day squad, a few games with the 21s. Rinse, repeat. With 7 on the bench, we could afford 1 or 2 being youngsters. 1 or two on the pitch as well. I thought Bagan stepped up yesterday. Showed a bit of physicality. Ashford definitely deserves to be in every match day squad. Start a couple, bench a few. I think Kpakio has a way to go. A real prospect. He seemed too keen to pass the ball on quickly. With the 21s, he takes more players on. He also gets out of position defensively from time to time. He is only 17 to be fair. A few of the other fringe players looked OK. Fish and Daland did OK. Someone needs to give Horvath kicking lessons though.
