We only have four more mid week games - I believe the worst of the hectic Championship schedule is behind us. Are any of the four I mention going to be satisfied with 20 or 30 minute sub appearances once every week?
He never used subs at Lorient at all either (their fans couldn't stand him for it), suggests it's more to do with his philosophy than anything else - mind he may just have, at no point, trusted his bench options at Lorient either.
Fair enough re Vale, thanks for the insight - I thought of him as covering all centre mid positions and the left side, certainly didn't appreciate that the right side was his best position.
Is there a concrete link to the Fulham lad? Bellingham and Vinicius at Sunderland who’d have thought it
Where has this link with Vinicius come from like? any actual links or just rumours on here? Also i.e the Vale post, I thought he was a fullback rather than a midfielder/wide player?
This ^^^ for me Rigg is only 17, it's his first full season as a senior pro and he was already starting to have games that would pass him by imo, I don't think he should be pissed off if we sign someone and he ends up not starting. He's only 17. Also this would allow for RLB to rotate more from game to game, there's no reason to start the same players every single game
Well in theory it wouldn't be the same player only playing 20 minutes once every week. It would rotate. So every 4 weeks they get a rest. And if there are any injuries or suspensions, none of them do.
Agree it must be his philosophy. I think he's looking for these players to come together as the match progresses to learn how to solve problems presented by the opposition, and to try to capitalise on the areas of the game in which we're causing them problems. He only seems to want to bring subs on when he detects possible costly fatigue.
Yeah I think its more to do with his philosophy of not wanting to disrupt a team performance rather than JUST trust. My hope is that the trust allows him to rotate the starting 11 more, even if the changes within the match don't increase by much
On this one I’m just playing devil’s advocate to an extent, but does that sort of rotation allow for the relationships on the pitch to remain established and flourish? RLB is big on that and his triangles. As it is, I think the players always looks so well drilled that it isn’t all that impactful when a deputy plays.
Its a good point. Hopefully ELF is already well conversed with RLB's triangles and can simply slot in. Good intelligent players should be able to adapt into it.
This is another big reason why i'm excited so much. He already knows exactly what RLB wants and was his main man in midfield. For all he's very very talented and better than this league, there is no getting used to the manager period that new signings usually need
#Sunderland is increasing the pressure for Enzo #LeFee after the break with Betis. The English offer #ASRoma a loan with right of redemption, which becomes mandatory in case of promotion to the Premier. After the initial no, the player has now opened up. It is a question @tempoweb
I can completely see why personally, it’s a loan until he end of the season and will almost certainly only be made permanent if we’re promoted. On top of that our current manager basically made him the player he is.
The player was signed for €23m (£19m) just 6 months ago, Roma will want most of that back if any deal involving a transfer is to be struck. I know our guys are very good at getting sensible deals that the club can manage, so I'd assume this could be dragged out a little longer than usual. Happy to be completely wrong though.
It's almost a perfect no risk chance for him to get to the PL, makes more sense to try rather than not to. If we go up, the buy option is automatic and he is now a PL player, if we don't he goes back to Roma
But what within that 20 or 30 mins they are quite extraordinary and in turn deserve to start the next game in place of someone who looked to be struggling for either fitness or form? That 20 or 30 mins then turns into 75, 80,90...... To keep your spot in the first team you need to perform in both training AND the match - that can only be good for the club
