Bill Gates getting his greasy hands into every European democracy is never mentioned.

It’s only Elon musk that you guys seem to have an issue with.. why is that?

Maybe the answer is to close the Politics Thread, although the opinions displayed here would simply end up in other threads.
How about renaming the thread? Change the title to something like "Let's spout utter rubbish to see who reacts"?

I would keep the name and add "Abandon all hope ye who enter here". Or perhaps that suits being put over the home turnstiles at St Mary's.

I agree, your misinformation is very funny and naive.

Starmer’s statement calling people wanting a deeper inquiry into this issue “far right” AGAIN is one of the most shameful things I have ever heard a PM say.

Genuinely he is one of the worst prime ministers of all time.

I agree. From now on my responses will consist solely of the <laugh> emoji, because everything he writes is simply laughable.

As widely reported. This makes far more sense than the frothing foaming hysteria from Musk, Badenoch, Farage and assorted social media disgrace posters.

"There should be no more inquiries into grooming gangs because it would further delay action by government, the former chair of an inquiry into child sexual abuse in England and Wales has said."

"Prof Alexis Jay said there had already been a delay of more than two years in implementing her independent inquiry into child sexual abuse report and that “the time has passed for more inquiries”.

“I’ve certainly been very unhappy about the politicisation of child sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse in the way that many people, sometimes in a very uninformed way, have waded into the argument,” Jay said"

"The home secretary, Yvette Cooper, has promised to implement a key demand from Jay’s child sexual abuse inquiry – that professionals who work with children face criminal sanctions if they fail to report claims of child sexual abuse, under a law to be introduced this year."

"The introduction of mandatory reporting in England would be included in the crime and policing bill expected to be introduced to parliament in the spring, Cooper told parliament."

    Why not?
You’ve banned two people for telling the truth.

I think the answer to that initial question is now clear.

I think closing the thread may be a good idea. Most (not all) people who post on here regularly have quite entrenched views and those views differ so strongly that meaningful discussion is very difficult. I don't think it would be that hard to keep politics out of other threads.

On a different note, fair play to the BBC for this line of questioning. People can complain about Elon Musk all they like but I think a prime minister who regularly dismisses the views held by a large proportion of the public as "far right" is a much bigger problem.

I think a much bigger problem is unscrupulous people trying to make political capital out of human tragedy.

Where was Musk’s outrage btw, when his buddy Trump was exposed as a sexual predator?

Some prominent Brit should be demanding an inquiry in the US to the full extent of what happened and who was involved in Epstein's under age trafficking and exploitation ring. A new batch of court papers have been released. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67879225

In new daily LOLZ, the wonderful Andrew Tate has launched his own political party called…this is no joke…the Bruv Party.

I guess if he got into power, rape would cease to be an issue, as every woman in the UK would have moved overseas.

Ha. Is this your first time discussing politics? Goes with territory I'm afraid. As for Trump, my guess is that like most Americans he sees him as the lesser of two evils.

There are already prominent Americans calling for information to be released.

How does it feel to have joined the far right?

I wouldn't know, nothing in my post indicates I have joined the far right, quite the opposite so just a figment of your imagination.

For years on this board if anyone posted anything that went against the views of the majority they were rounded on by 6,7,8 or more different posters. It wasn't always polite or good natured but quite often aggressive and deliberately insulting. Tory voters and Brexiteers came in for particular vitriol as I remember.
There were also quite a few mis-informed and outrageous statements made by the left minded posters at that time too. Very few if any were pulled into line or called liars, in fact they were quite often backed up by their fellow posters.

Now we have a different situation where Labour are in power and having to account for their actions. This appears to have made their supporters on here a bit tetchy to say the least. There are a number of posters saying "this thread has become a joke" or "a place worth visiting but not anymore" or words to that effect. What they really are saying is "I was quite happy dishing it out but I don't like being on the receiving end".
Politics ebb and flow, sometimes it's the right with the upper hand and sometimes it's the left. You just have to make the most of it when it's your turn.
Suggesting a thread is closed because it's not going how you would like it is pretty juvenile, and to be honest only strengthens the belief that the left don't tolerate opposing opinions and actively try to silence them.

Just take it on the chin, ignore people if you want but in the end it's only a thread on a football forum. Some views may anger you but let's get some perspective.

I completely agree with you that all opinions are valid and that the whole point of this thread was to promote robust debate from all shades of the political spectrum.

What I do object to, and which I will continue to point out, is when certain individuals post proven lies. By that I don’t mean stuff I disagree with, or which shows a political viewpoint I support to be incorrect or flawed. That’s part of the learning process which helps people to form a consensus and find a workable pathway through life.

What I mean is, actual, verified, certifiable lies.

For the record I usually vote Lib Dem, but I wish the new Labour government well in its efforts to clean up the absolute horror-show of a mess left by the last lot. This includes implementing the recommendations made in the 2022 Alexis Jay Report on Child Sex Abuse which is here:

    https://www.iicsa.org.uk/reports-recommendations/publications/inquiry/final-report.html

Although the report was published more than 2 years ago, the previous government made no attempt to implement any of the recommendations it made.

Today Ms Jay said that holding any further inquiry into grooming gangs would only introduce further delay, and that what is needed now is action.

This. There is a reasonably arguable case against a new National Inquiry if that is likely to obstruct implementation of the Jay report recommendations.

Get that done first and then if there is still concern move to a second National Inquiry if the local one is not seen as sufficient.

The needs of the victims and prevention come first, ahead of party politics and the stirrings of someone who wishes our country ill.

I would trust an independent figure with experience in the field who looked into this intensively for 6 years ahead of someone who only became aware of it online 2 weeks ago and immediately used it as a political weapon.
