There's a rolling 3 year reporting period in the champ.

You can't just get yourself relegated, spend what you want for a season then come back with a blank slate.

Getting off topic here and I know some absolutely hate PSR chat so apologies, but I'm a bit surprised Birmingham didn't sign all their big money players on one year contracts with an option in their favour (if they didn't achieve promotion), with the intent of negotiating new deals as soon as they went up. It would mean the entire transfer fee would be amortised in that single year of the contract, with a new contract carrying no cost in the Championship and thus not breaching PSR in the Championship. Obviously the risk is for the players if they got injured etc. so it might be a bit dodgy to arrange.

You don't come with a clean slate but it only counts when you're in the division.

How would the relegated PL clubs be able to lose so much otherwise?

There's different rules for years spent in the PL, think you get a higher allowable loss.

Parachute payments and an aggregate of the 3 years permitted losses depending which division they'd been in they've been in during the reporting period and for how long they'd been in each.

It doesn't work the same when you drop out of the champ.

That's my point the rules are different for the years when you spend in different leagues and the L1 rules are a joke.

I never said they're applied the same as the PL, I'm saying the different rules of each league are applied. So the flat £13m yearly loss won't apply this year for them as they're not in the division.

No, but they will have to comply with a wage cap of 60% turnover, and on promotion comply with championship PSR.

I think they were at an advantage on relegation, that BC were no where near spending to PSR limit over the previous 3 seasons. The new owners spent a bit but they were in Ehab limbo for a long time before under previous ownership, and a lot of what they spent post takeover before they were relegated was infrastructure.

It's given them an opportunity to restructure and make some big losses to do so.

We would go down with no headroom for when we came up. We wouldn't have that advantage to just spend whatever when we came back up.

And yes the suggestion of 1 year contract with promotion clauses would be great in theory.

The trick is finding a credible agent who would agree to it for an established player.

Which is why even Birmingham haven't been able to.

I'm not sure what you're arguing now but they'll be fine. The sold Jordan James in the summer for £4/5m, they shifted a load of players out and they're getting about 27k at St Andrews.

Exactly, we were using them as an example though and their psr position is very different to ours.

    They have headroom.

    We wouldn't have.

We could spend whatever we wanted on transfer fees in L1 as long as we didn't go over the wage cap. The PSR position of the Championship has nothing to do with it.

Pleased to see Will Jarvis has got a move, talented but seems to lack fight, and was unlikely to get game time with us. He needed to find regular game time and Notts County a good move for him.

We probably could if we had a consortium of billionaires able to write of millions in a single season.

Acun is a wealthy man, but even I wouldnt consider that feasible under the current ownership.

Also worth noting any 3 year contracts you take with you don’t count towards the cap

I think the length of contract is really positive for the lad

He's got some security, he now knows he'll be a professional to his mid 20s, he can plan a life around.

He's got an opportunity now to build a career for himself.

    Over to you now, Will.

I thought it was only 2 clubs per season, or does the Irish league finishing mean it doesn’t count as this season?

Did we get a fee, sell on clause, buy back clause? Because Sod’s Law says he becomes a superstar & will be in the PL before us if our history is anything to go by.

It was like that when they brought in that wage cap when we were in L1. All contracts entered into previously were measured at the league's average, even if it was McGeady who was on £20k+ a week. The rules are just farcical.

Birmingham have been quite smart since getting relegated, they've spent the **** load of money on transfer fees with the hope it gets them to the top end of the Championship and they'll have plenty of headroom to be able to spend in the summer.

Stansfield looks pricey, but if he gets you to the PL, he's a bargain.

Conor Townsend we've sold lower who's played above city.

Who else in recent years? Andrews maybe? Marney? Did Corry Evans do it?

Oh, and who was that lanky striker from the academy did well in Scotland then came back and was a solid journeyman. Name escapes me.

Think he scored against Newcastle in a friendly once.

    The rules are farcical, absolutely.

But to take advantage of the loopholes you have to be in a position to, and we aren't.

We've got a sell-on but he won't. He did well for Shelbourne but he does blow hot and cold and the LOI isn't a strong league. He's got the skill to become a good championship winger but his mentality is crap.
