The point has been mentioned before, but Duffy, Barnes and Stacey all came to us on free transfers from PL teams. Barnes and Fassnacht are gone, and Hanley is likely to be leaving which will free up a considerable amount of money. Should any of the others extend their contracts, it's likely to be on lower wages.
I singled out players who are probably overpaid for their contribution, and only looked at those at the top end of the list. There's not many high earners missing though, McLean and Sargent both listed at £25k.
It would be interesting to compare our salary levels to other Championship clubs. I suspect that there may be a strong correlation between money spent and success gained, but there's also a strong element of moneyball measures involved. Looking at the list again: Duffy £35k (Our highest paid player apparently, including for comparison) Stacey £35k Hanley £30k (Going?) Barnes £30k (Gone) Gunn £25k Fassnacht £20k (Gone) Sorensen £20k Hernandez £19.5k How should we rate other players for return versus cost when fees are included? Crnac (£8.5m), Forson (£4m), Schwartau (£3.5m) are all high cost acquisitions from the off and then their wages have to be included. Duffy costs £1,820,000 per year. How many years will it take for Crnac, Forson and Schwartau to achieve that over their time with us? Obviously if they leave us for a fee, that has to be included in their cost/contribution ratio, but it's not as straightforward as it might seem. Villa paid Everton £10m for Dobbin but he'll probably be out most low cost player while he's with us (22 weeks at £8000/wk equals £176,000).
I thought so DH I was wondering where the likes of Sarge, Sainz and McLean sat. I know we didn’t pay fees for the likes of Duffy, Barnes and Stacey but it’s seems mad that we gave them such big contracts. Stacey less so as he’s a decent age still. I can’t see us renewing Lungis contract on that wage, a shame as I really like the player, but not available enough to justify that wage. Arguably even though Onel is only bringing 30mins a game really, his wage can be justified somewhat by his impact
Appreciate he could move on a free at the endo fthe season, however if we wanted him now I'd expect upwards of £7.5m, no way can I see us stumping up that cash in January, without a guaranteed sale of Nunez or Sainz. Not to mention he's currently injured....we have enough of those....
NCFC rumours about Charlie Savage should be an interesting discussion point between Robbie and Chris Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live 606 football talk show. It may have already been the subject of some banter between the two?

Is it just me of does Ben Godfrey look different? Facially I mean. I'm not talking about the hideous shirt. It's like Atalanta have sent over a poor lookalike. please log in to view this image
Max Aaron’s loaned out to Valencia with €9m buy option. What has happened to our young talents - Aarons, Godfrey and Cantwell
Don't understand your comment. Since they left us Aarons and Godfrey have continually played for teams above Championship level and whilst Cantwell has ended up back in the Championship it is with a team higher than us in the table.
