There are a couple of howlers in there. Mistakes that keepers should only make once or twice in their careers. Alot of the others are debatable in isolation but group them together like that and I want my keeper to be dealing with some of them at least.
What strikes me is that his positioning/starting position is so poor. The three worst, Sunderland, Hull and Portsmouth (where his dive, which he didn’t need to do, meant the ball went straight through him). I’ve tried to give him the benefit but let’s be honest, he’s ****ing awful.
With shot stopping it’s really hard to tell… sometimes just a yard further back or nearer is the difference - but as you say, it’s the volume of ‘could haves’ - they back up what the stats say, his xg against is always bottom end, his save percentage as well. Can’t all be coincidence.
Evening all. The reaction of Rodon, Piroe and Rothwell is totally justified. They've bust their balls to score against a packed defence then they watch their keeper gift the opposition a goal, again! How many teams have we played where the keeper getd MOM? I don't need Mes to make world class saves, it's nice when he does, I just want him to do the basics right. Don't concede at your near post, if the ball is hit at roughly the centre of the goal, save it. I think Farke is stubborn. He won't play Schmit. Maybe he doesn't train well but when he's come on he's looked decent. He will play Ampadu no matter what. Saturday should have been Rodon and Wober with Amps in MF and Schmit at LB but he won't do it. He won't drop Mes because he doesn't like Darlow. Because of the errors he might even play Mes against Harrogate. His stubbornness could cost us promotion.
If he sticks with Meslier from here on in then it should be Farke who is held accountable for Mesliers next **** up.
Some of the substitutions are strange, for example taking Soloman off. Even he couldn't understand it. Taking Rothwell off and replacing him with Joseph, or was it Bamford? The obvious one of replacing Bogle with Ampadu. He's taken James off when he's looked our biggest threat but hasn't swapped him recently when he's looked leggy. He sends Gnonto on to replace a winger but Gnonto plays everywhere across the front and we lose our width which is crucial against a packed defence. He could even give Guilavogui a run out as CB or as the 6 but he doesn't do that either. It's very strange.
Another thought is that Rodon and Ampadu play in front of Darlow for Wales so it should be an easy transition.
Many fans now waking up to his misdemeanors, he has to go , I know darlow is not good but he must be put in goals for the next month till we sell messliar and buy another keeper
There’s a few YouTube videos knocking around showing Darlow bloopers and they don’t make great viewing either. Maybe anyone thinking he’s the cure should have a peep. Like I’ve said you can make someone either look great or ridiculous in these three minute videos. That’s why I’m not gonna post them
I've had to take a step back as I just get upset very easily. Listening back to the game you can hear his hands smacking the crossbar so he was probably too close to push the ball over the bar cleanly. Yes I agree he should have done better but watching all the defence on the 2nd and 3rd goals, motionless, not picking up the Hull players, they are not without blame. We cannot afford to be changing keepers now, okay for the FA Cup game, but sadly I don't have faith in Darlow or Cairns to come in and do better. I've heard we have to make another 24+ million savings this season so don't think we are in the position a lot of fans think we are to make signings. Whilst Meslier has made some mistakes which have cost us points, he is not the only one to do that. On the whole, we have still kept a lot of clean sheets, got two points and not been beaten if I have to remain positive. By all means have different opinions on things but some of the abuse goes ways over the top for me.
Well put , but unfortunately it's gone beyond just a goalkeeper making supposedly mistakes I'm not even sure myself wether they are mistakes or something else is going on with mess.lier , one thing I know is that it is now transfer month and if any team except a team in the championship come on for mess.lier I would sell him and the added bonus is we can then go and buy a goalkeeper as it's January transfer month , in my view it has to be done because as I say it's gone beyond just the goalkeeper making mistakes or maybe not BUT also the Leeds united defence in my view has lost confidence in him and that is dangerous in vital matches as leeds defenders will at times be worried about passing the ball back to him and that is intolerable and needs sorting out , there is enough pressure on defenders without worrying about the goal keeper aswell . He has to go or be dropped for the rest of the season till we sell him in January or the summer.
I honestly think he is here to stay and there will be no one else coming in. To say drop him completely well I think that would be a complete own goal.
Why ? If darlow was no good in training Leeds trainers would see that , and we would've got a loaned in by now , but we haven't so darlow must be ok as the replacement for mess.liar , also I know Why would it ? Darlow had 1 bad game but also our defenders that game were useless , I think darlow would do ok
You’re entitled to your opinion but out of all our keepers, Meslier is still the best option as far as I’m concerned.
it was always known in the past that keepers mature later and Meslier hasn’t yet reached his peak. I would love them to get Nigel Martin in to mentor him. Under Marsch he had no dedicated coach to work with which impacted on him a lot plus we had no midfield or defence to protect him. He’s come a long way since then.
