Been thinking about this since Saturday but thought I'd wait a day or two for things to settle.

Many of us mentioned at the weekend just how bad we were Saturday which seemed to include a huge lack of effort but is it the worst of the worst since we moved to St Marys?

Poll added but happy for suggestions for any more to be added to it if there's enough interest in them.

    The contenders...

Saints 0-5 Brentford 2025 - Brentford had not won away all season and only scored 5 goals total before they rocked up and doubled that total against a hapless Saints who didn't look arsed and were lucky to not concede more.

Saints 0-5 Spurs 2025 - 3 down after 15 minutes and 5 down by HT which must be one of the only times that's ever happened to a home team with 11 men. Luckily Spurs treated the second half as a training exercise otherwise this could have been 9.

Saints 1-2 Grimsby 2023 - in terms of league position most probably the worst result in our entire history.

Saints 0-6 Chelsea 2022 - Chelsea were 4 up after half an hour and also hit the woodwork thrice in the first half to deliver a battering that was all too familiar under Hasenhuttl.

    Saints 0-9 Leicester 2019 - Nuff said.

Saints 0-3 Watford 2008 - An outsider in this list for sure but I felt worth including due to the fact we missed two penalties. Though arguably the fact we got those penalties makes this better than the others on its own.

Honourable mentions for me are the Forest 0-1 from 2023 and the Be'er Sheva 1-1 from 2016.

The former was just as pathetic a performance you can get in the biggest game of the season against a relegation rival.

The latter, while it might seem weird to include a draw, has always stuck with me as being utterly cowardly to play for a 0-0 at home against a team who we had much more quality than which cost us out place in the Europa KO rounds.

    Good idea.

It may be recency bias, but the Spurs battering was the worst for me. Just hapless from first to last.

Gonna have to give this some thought throughout the day I think. I'm leaning towards Brentford to be honest but I'm not sure how much of that is recency bias.

Speaking of recency bias it's noticeable that all bar one of these is in the last 5 seasons so if I've missed any obvious ones from further back please let me know.

It does feel correct to me though as our home form was generally always pretty decent pre Ralph.

Saw your post after I sent mine and was annoyed that you got there first.

It does show how utterly pathetic we've been at home for quite some time now though.

What was the score when we played Liverpool at home in the cup? Caulker was playing.

6-1, I very nearly included it but we didn't as we started well enough and just collapsed once they got their second and it also seemed more down to 2/3 shockers rather than the entire team. Happy to add it if others want it there too though.

I'll always remember that game. Taking the lead early, nearly scoring again 5 mins later, Lallana taking their first corner and putting it straight out of play. I remember thinking to myself '****ing hell this is too good to be true' - turned out I was right.

I'd take a bet that an even worse one will be coming up before the season ends...

Hopefully City and Arsenal have nothing to play for by the time they visit.

The Saints 1-2 Wolves 2023 game was pretty bad too. The complete collapse was pathetic, particularly given they had a man sent off early in the first half. I probably wouldn't pick that as worst, but it was an awful day for us.

Struggling to choose one game! We're spoilt for choice <laugh>
The 0-1 loss to Forest was just a dreadful, dreadful game from both sides. Absolutely no quality or much of a game plan other than Forest just sitting in and defending and us pumping the ball forward. That was also their first (and only) away win of the season and moved them out of the bottom 3...

Going to have to think on it more too, also tempted to put the 0-5 Brentford for the complete lack of quality throughout the team and more-so the complete lack of effort. I mean first half in particular Brentford were just in first gear and happy to waste time. They played 3 days before and we had a week off. They also had a makeshift back 4 that we didn't touch.
I think another reason this one felt so bad was probably also the expectation/hope that we might be better as it was the new managers first real chance to have a proper week to prepare for a game,... and then we turn up and throw the towel in before even trying.

    Can only really comment on games I've been to, but honourable mentions;

Forest in Jan 2023 under Jones.
Wolves in Feb 2023 under Jones.
Grimsby in March 2023 under Selles.
Tottenham in Dec 2024 under Martin.
    Leicester 9-0.

And that's just the recent years, not even taking into account any disasters in the Burley/Portvliet championship administration years <laugh>

I ended my playing days in 1971 when I started going to the Dell with my brother-in-law so I have been watching Saints for 55 years and in my opinion Saturday's game was the the most appalling performance by the Saints I have ever watched. I have always recognised that Saints are not going to be a great side other than for short periods but what I have always admired is the very clever way the club has been run (a couple of blips excepted) sadly this current lot running the club have taken incompetence to new level. Yesterday I found myself looking back at the days of Branfoot and Rupert Lowe with some affection. Ye God's! Things are really bad.

Most of us won’t probably see it based on current statements on attendance? We’ll probably just hear about it.

I seem to remember playing Derby County who were down to 9 men and they still beat us.

I'm going to have to go with Brentford. Whilst the others are all ****e results and (very) bad days at the office, Saturday was those ****s just not bothering. That wasn't unlucky, or decisions not going our way, that was the players making a statement that they're not happy with Juric. The twats

These sorts of games where we completely collapse and throw away the game probably deserve a separate category. At no point were we good enough to go 3-0 up in the first place in many games that you would consider as our worst performance. Even though the collapse was monumental.

We can get battered by a far superior team and not be half as bad as we were on Saturday. Everything was in our favour but you could see that the team weren't putting the effort in and that's why it was the worst performance for me, no way we should've lost by 5 to Brentford at home this season.
