Ryan Giles seen walking out of a room with man in charge of transfers for the Boro last night. Stopped and chatted with two Boro fans at the match that he would be seeing them soon if all works out well. Expecting him to be one we see leave
If you took Alzate, Puerta, Pandur and jones out of our team and replaced them with players that appear to have the same levels of skill and desire as Giles you’d almost certainly be condemning us to League One football next season, take out Giles and it won’t make so much as a ripple, he’s been truly awful for us and I can’t imagine any replacement being any worse. Sooner he’s gone the better for me.
Mehlem constantly made runs between the lines and never got the ball , he was shafted with the team and play it to the wingers only plan - yet Tim signed him!!
Really can’t see Giles going simply because the number of players we’d have to bring in this window would be comical and end in only one way.
If, and it's a big if, we can get anywhere near the money we paid for him, then for me it's goodbye ASAP. Really hoping Ruben can bring some sanity to our transfer dealings
Assuming the loans that have been reported do go back and Giles, Mehlem and Longman were to go you’ve got Pandur/Racioppi Coyle/Drameh/Jacob Jones/McLoughlin/Hughes (2 months out) Puerta/Slater/Alzate/Abdus/Simons/Palmer (6 weeks out) Pedro/Kamara/Vaughan/Burstow/Sinik That kind of turnover is almost impossible in a summer window nevermind January. Left back is one of the spots we don’t HAVE to deal with and should be a last resort.
Think we need rid. To be honest. Rushworth, Burns, Giles, Bedia, Mehlem and Omur all want to be gone. 2/3 young players can be gone too on loan. We need 5/6 in if want to stay up. Maybe 2/3 from Reading and some more experienced Championship cloggers.
If this is true, we’ve got one player being pally with supporters of a team we’ve just lost to implying he will be joining them and another being pally with his former teammates at a club we’re competing against to survive relegation after they just won. What the ****’s going on? Why are we signing players who just don’t want to be here and make subtle hints of derision toward the club that pays their salaries?
As has been said previously - the division is a poor quality one. I think the teams doing alright are largely solid - with 2 or 3 players that can make a difference. I think we have a largely solid enough small core of players. Coyle, Slater, Jones, McLoughlin have experience of featuring for a team that has done alright in this division. I think we can add Pandur to that now and possibly Puerta. We've still got Palmer and Hughes back soonish who also feel like they are cut out for the division. What we do sadly lack is those players that can make a difference. If we can find a couple that can just turn something into a chance then I think we can survive - other signings clearly need to be made for squad depth in midfield and at full back . Others have said we don't lose by many very often and I think that's because the foundations and experience in the division are there. Its the fancy stuff that really needs sorting fast due to Millar and Belloumi's injuries. But I don't have a lack of confidence in the basic structures of the team - aside from attacking.
It’s a culture problem and sums up modern day football. Take no responsibility for failure and look to blame others. And the days of having a nutter in midfield who smashes the oppositions best player for trying to take the piss are over. We were so passive last night because we have no leaders yes the opposition was better but at least leave a mark.
And herein lies the issue of not doing business early. Kamara on paper to me was an exciting signing given he did well at league 1 and was young. We farted about late with that one for I assume own reason or another and probably didn’t do the due diligence over his character and fit only looked at his ability etc. It’s amazing how far a good dressing room seems to get you in this league. Derby aren’t really a terrible talented squad but Warne is probably holding them together with a good mentality and it’s working for them.
One half decent game in over a year. 4 million quid. All you can say is he was a better deal than Sinik. If Boro are happy to take him and prepared to bung us a few quid (we’re not going to get near our money back) then take it.
