It's no secret that I dislike most Politician's.

There are howver some exceptions and one of these was this former US President who died yesterday.

He is one of the few Presidents in my lifetime that avoided any personal scandal.
I can not recall him ever being caught lying.
And he probably acomplished more, for humanity, after he left The White House, than when he was there.
On leaving Office he spent the rest of his life trying to help Humanity.
His aim, in all his endevours, seems to have been to leave this world in a better state than it was in when he entered it.

I mourn the passing of any 'Good Man', and for me, James Earl Carter qualifies like few others.

An excellent statesman, it really has to be said.

Indeed, his legacy is significant despite only getting one term. Most Trump lovers would probably claim to like Carter but they really are chalk and cheese.

One of the first things he said when he came into office was he would never tell a lie.

He struck me as a decent man who wanted to make other people's lives better while ironically making his own worse ...

... the exact opposite of the next President.

    RIP Jimmy Carter.

Definitely the best President in my lifetime. Came across as a very humble man.
IIRC, he actually visited Washington, Tyne and Wear during his tenure.
    RIP Jimmy.

Until 30 seconds ago I’d agree with you. But as I browse Wiki I was reading that one of his last acts as president was to pardon Peter Yarrow.
Who is he you ask? He has just died recently but was better known as one third of the 1960s folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary.
Peter was convicted in 1970 for molesting a 14 year old girl named Barbara Winter. She had turned up to his hotel room hoping for an autograph. He answered the door naked. He got her to masturbate him until he ejaculated. He claimed it was consensual. She always refuted that. He only later apologised for his actions but a long time after the presidential pardon.
Now, some on here will say that we shouldn’t speak ill of the dead (both of them), but could you imagine the outrage if President elect Trump pardoned a *****phile? Some will also say that it was a long time ago, but would you say that if it was your daughter?
Now, I’m not saying he wasn’t a good man. I firmly believe that in general he was, but we have to be careful of giving people saintly qualities as we all do things that at times that are not good.
