I'm glad it's been officially announced he's got the job though I think he probably knew that before today. From the position he inherited, the least that can be said is that the guy has done an OK job and deserves the chance. Just wonder what Tan regards as a successful outcome to get him the job ongoing come the end of the season. I can't see it just being survival.
Right appointment made. End of discussion. Good luck to the guy. He needs the support of the fans, players and board. In the short term the first 2 are givens. Hope the board step up to the plate.
It’s galling to see so many clubs who were on a level par with us 4,5-6 seasons back who have flourished as a result of having a plan, a vision, a philosophy, with proper infrastructure in place and financial investment to back it up and whom are now so far ahead of us in every sense. I’m watching 2 of them as I type with another on a bit later. You’re right to worry Irish.
By the same token though, we can look at clubs like Birmingham, Charlton, Reading, Blackpool, Huddersfield etc (all clubs that have been on a par or even higher than us in fairly recent times) and think 'phew' things could be so much worse... We're still at a good level and once again, with some half decent recruitment/changes to our squad can think about kicking on and making some progress. Personally I'm still in the "if we can make progress, establish a semi-decent playing style and blood some youngsters" then it's a job well done camp
You’re not wrong there & you can add more to that list - the point I was making though as I’m sure you got was it can be done as eg Brentford etc have done but there’s not a hope in hell of our owner and board emulating those fantastically operated football businesses.
Strangely nin, I feel all this applies to us as well! Everything seems to have gone backwards and t1ts up for CCFC x2
Dalman and Choo obviously not impressed by that published open letter to them............ https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/club-response-open-letter-011224
If there's an agreed process that wasn't followed, it undermines the credibility of the fans group. I agree with much of the content of the letter, we've been saying as much on here for months, years even. If process is followed and the board don't like the content, that's the board's problem. If process hasn't been followed, it becomes an inflammatory statement, which is the supporters problem. The response from the club didn't address the content of the letter, just how it was delivered. In that regard, we are no further forward in resolving the issue of a lack of footballing nous on the board. Possibly, the letter has damaged the case put forward.
Regardless of whether due process was carried out surely as the club now knows the fans are frustrated, it could say ok we’ll address the issues in a responsible and meaningful manner. I’m not holding my breath though…..
If they'd followed due process the club would know the fans are frustrated. The content would be the same, just not in an open letter which has been antagonistic.
Just been looking at the Champ table. I keep hearing that it's so tight amongst the bottom dozen clubs that a couple of wins will shoot you up the table - factually true, but absolute bullshit in terms of where we are as a club. The top 4 all have more than TWICE as many points as us already and the gulf is growing. We're miles behind a lot of others in terms of structure - Tan's money means nothing. Many attributing our lowly position to the first half dozen disaster games of the season under Bulut, but is it really that simple? The fact of the matter is we've lost our way as a club and to expect Riza to turn this rudderless ship around is unfair on the guy unless there's a huge sea change in approach from the club - I won't hold my breath either.
What happens now? Does VT stick with Riza and hope that Sunday was more than a one off or, does he sack him now and bring in someone else before the window opens? Up until Sunday there were some strong opinions about getting rid of Riza. My guess is that Tan will stick with Riza. If that's the case, there needs to be a war chest and the services of a very effective sales person.
Not sure how emotion effects Tan's decisions, but if he'd seen the unbridled celebrations between manager and players on the touchline after Robbo's first goal, he must have been impressed by the "togetherness in this" demonstrated. Togetherness alone won't necessarily win football matches but it sure as hell helps when the chips are down. Before the Watford game I thought it was a 50/50 chance that the trigger might have been pulled if we had a bad result on Wednesday against Cov, but now I'd have thought it very unlikely that Riza won't be handed the opportunity and sufficient funds to back him for the rest of the season.
Another letter - how will the club deal with this one ps I’m just making a point there are 2 threads running parallel which seemingly now boil down to basically the same issue: “What’s Next” and “Where are we going.”
It's like a scene from paint your wagon. Where are we going? I don't know. When will we get there? I ain't certain. All that I know is I am on my way.
Due respect but there is a difference between what's next and where we are going. Where we are going is about the vision of the club whereas the other thread is about the mechanics. Also the Where are we going thread has become Where are Bristol City going .
It’s like what’s the difference between illegal and unlawful Seriously though does anyone know what the difference is?
