Saw this on facebook. This is the 1902 F.A. Cup final-replay between Sheffield United and Southampton, at Crystal Palace. It was the last final to be played with Victorian pitch markings...The six-yard-box, we know today, consisted of two semi-circles. Penalties were taken from anywhere along the solid white 12-yard line. The remaining players had to stand behind the intermittent white line as the kick was taken. Here is Billy Barnes scoring the winning goal, in a 2-1 victory, for Sheffield United (Att: 33,068).
He’s the one behind Chilcs and in front of St Jabbo. Godders is retired by this point so is not on the pitch.
Sunday 29th December 2024 Selhurst Park, London 1500 KO Crystal Palace V Southampton Referee: Michael Salisbury. Assistants: Scott Ledger, Derek Eaton. Fourth official: Darren Bond. VAR: Graham Scott. Assistant VAR: Akil Howson.
I wish he’d focus more on breaking his goal duck with us. That said, think he will score tomorrow. So much more refreshing without Martin stinking the place out. Haven’t heard much from that jellyfish who didn’t want Martin to leave. Hopefully they can see we needed to change. My main Q going forward is either side going to make the break clause active in the summer.
In case anyone is mistaken as to the average knowledge of a Saints fan on Facebook, there’s a guy on the Echo piece about Ugochukwu saying we should get rid in January, and get Lavia and Broja back. Sometimes I despair…
Over 10.5k tickets still available for the Swansea game with the entire kingsland closed. Really ****ed up the pricing for this Saints. Still fuming about it tbh.
A bit of a dead rubber this one, just a distraction. Might have had a bit of edge if RM was still with us. a chance to give some of the squad a run out.
I'm the opposite. This is the most meaningful game we have coming up. It's the league games that are dead rubbers. Seriously it might take Juric a couple of months to get the team playing his way, by which time we're down. But if we can hang on in the cup and get through the first couple of rounds, there's no reason why we couldn't go far. Especially as everyone else treats it like a dead rubber comp until the quarters/semis. Also, a win is a win. I want to know how it feels again.
Good points, I am not happy because I am stuck in the Itchen as my seat in the Kingsland isn't available. A Cup run would certainly give us a lift. No harm in wishing.
