I think there's more to come from Pandur. I've noticed in recent games he does look to play the ball out quickly but can't see anyone to play it to, his exasperation is clear to see, he's got a lot more vocal as the season's gone on.
I know it's going to seem like I never have anything good to say about him, but I'm going to argue a bit with that. What I find quite exasperating is Pandur will race to the edge of his area, look around and then look frustrated when there's no-one available. Goalkeepers who are good at distribution are looking for options as soon as they have the ball so that by the time they reach the edge of the area they are kicking or throwing, not looking around. To be fair to Pandur, he's not the only one and Alfie Jones is guilty of not looking for a pass until he has the ball under control. Top players play with their heads up as Pat Nevin likes to say.
If Pandur was brilliant with his distribution, and as good with his saves he'd be well out of our price range and playing Champions League football for one of the big clubs. For me he has improved immeasurably from early appearances, and he will only get better. He's here, he's ours, and he does a bloody good job, specially considering the porous defence of early season.
When was the last time a non parachute team got promoted playing super possession based football where the goalkeeper is the required to make a big contribution in possession? Ipswich - fast paced, transition football. Luton - defensively solid, direct football. Forest - Counter attacking Brentford - mix of the above Maybe teams should start playing within their means instead of trying to replicate something out of their means
Interesting article relative to your post on Skysports this morning. More than one way to skin.a cat,. https://www.skysports.com/football/...doni-iraolas-bournemouth-doing-it-differently
Was going to post similar - That Birmingham were willing to pay more and he saw them as a better option than Plymouth. Can't believe we got a mil for him. Happy days.
I read a lot about iraolas rayo vallenco Big fan of his I think heavy possession football like we had last season is far too easy to play against these days Teams press and so much better without the ball than they did 10 years ago And thats just the top of the iceberg
It seems bonkers to me that certain teams insist on doing it with lesser quality players. Southampton for example are dead and buried already
Saturday wasn’t perfect by any stretch but it was refreshing to see us completely nullify a team who played how we did last year with much lesser quality players on our end too. We could easily shoot up the table this season just because our style is fairly unique which seems bonkers
I think there's certainly an interesting discussion to be had about really possession based teams and whether it's worth it. Seeing us under Selles, and seeing Swansea on Saturday has had me thinking about that a bit this week. But I think it's false to equate that to goalkeepers being involved in possession. Almost every team has the goalkeeper heavily involved in possession now, not just very possession focused ones. It's just a huge part of the game nowadays.
To be honest everybody has been gunning for Pandur since pre season. And he’s proven everyone wrong. Everyone been confident with him in goal tells us, he needs to stay in between the sticks. No need to falter his progress.
The idea that Pandur has been a problem this season is laughable. He’s spent most of the season having to pass to his back four only as Walter didnt believe in the midfield being involved in the build up, who the **** is he meant to have been passing to in order to launch these world class counter attacks? We’ve finally adapted a little bit and he made 2 or 3 quick throw outs to get us going. Give the lad the opportunity ffs.
If someone thinks Pandur is the problem then they obviously think the other 10-16 players we’ve used have been good……they need to find a new hobbie
