Whilst we were open Pandur was making some howlers. We’ve been open all season and he’s also improved so it’s not out the question he wasn’t ready last year.
Short is where you’d be caught out and cost goals though. That’s what Ingram was doing. Poor long balls don’t cost goals
But that isn't the only reason to pick a player. Allsop's mid and long range passes were a big part of our style of play and that's why he was picked. Loads of clubs now want their keepers to make those sorts of passes because it gives the team a totally different dimension when they can play over the top of a press.
Call me traditional, but I've always preferred a keeper that can actually save a few shots, something Allsop seemed to struggle with.
That's fine, but lots of managers nowadays prioritise that passing range, Rosenior is one of them and that's why Allsop played. We got to 7th.
And if we had a decent keeper then we'd of been in the playoffs and LR would probably still be here....
Or maybe we'd have finished lower on account of the impact it'd have had on our build up play. Clearly that's what Rosenior thought. We have no way of knowing which is true, if either.
No, but the ones who saw allsop play last season could see that his contribution to our points total was negative and not positive
No one could possibly see that as a fact. It might be the opinion that you choose to hold. Rosenior held the opposite one, and it was what it was. It's totally pointless trying to guess what would've happened and we should really have moved on by now.
I think if a system requires that heavily on a goalkeeper in build up it’s probably not a very good system
I'm not convinced it's what Rosenior thought. It may have been linked to stubbornness, taking exception to Pandur having been acquired behind his back.
Wasn’t many games I came away thinking, thank god we had Allsop in goal today, his distribution really made a difference. There were plenty when I thought we’d have won if we had anyone else in goal
It’s always struck me as there’s more to the sacking of Rosenior but I do think he thought Pandur wasn’t ready.
It's good to see that as we sit almost at the bottom of the table we're still finding ways to slag off the manager who left us in 7th place.
