The fact that most people disagreed with me, doesn't mean I was wrong. Cifuentes seems like a perfectly amiable chap, but I just didn't like the way he was setting his team up and the dire nature of the football it was playing. Yesterday was better, albeit against a woeful Preston side, so maybe if that continues he will get me onside. What continues to puzzle me, though, is how Cifuentes gets credit for anything remotely positive, but is never blamed for poor performances and unwatchable football.
Come off it, he’ll never get you onside. There was plenty of criticism of Cifuentes on here and not just from me, from some reason you are blind/deaf to it. We’ve played dire football for years, regardless of the coach. That’s why since the last relegation we’ve never finished higher than 9th. We have lost more games in the last 10 seasons than every other club except two. It’s not all Cifuentes’ fault. And as we have said before, the positive and the negative are down to combinations of the coach, players and recruitment. We could probably add the medical staff to that. One thing Cifuentes should get huge credit for though - dropping MADSEN.
Marti seems to ease players coming back from injury by giving them just a few minutes to start with. Considering the number of muscle related injuries we've had this season that seems a good idea.
We played decent football under Warburton and also under Beale. Under Ainsworth, it was dire and he was rightly slaughtered for it. Barring two or three games, the football played under Cifuentes has been every bit as bad as that under Ainsworth, though. I enjoyed yesterday, and if that improvement continues I'll be happy to give Cifuentes credit. I agree that both the positives and negatives can be attributed to combinations of factors, but when I put up the 'Who's to Blame' poll (probably should have been 'who's mostly to blame') when we were bottom of the table, Cifuentes got 4 votes and Nourry got 16.
Don't forget Jude the Cat got two votes as well A lot of people pointed the finger at injuries or the historically bad running of this club. Our upturn in form has come with some of our newer acquisitions finally finding their feet, and some of the long term absentees returning to fitness. I'm optimistic for the rest of the season, not for a play-off push, but for mid table safety, and then push on from there next season...let's see what rabbits Nouri can pull out of the Jan transfer hat
We are pretty rubbish at 'playing ugly' and the 2nd half yesterday was about as 'expansive' as we have been all season (delivering the appropriate reward). For the life of me I can't see why playing the very risky game of patient keep ball around our own penalty area can be considered more effective than trying to do the same higher up the pitch particularly given the progress of our young midfielders. In short, we are actually a better team when being less ugly.
We have lost more games in the last 10 seasons than every other club except two. Thats why we have never finished higher than 9th. It’s not all Cifuentes’ fault, the rot set in an age ago. I thought a top half finish (8th was my hope) and a comfortable, dull season would have represented progress this year after the good form of the second half of last season and the fact that money has been spent on the squad. What we have is yet another relegation battle, which is far from over yet. Things are looking better at the moment, and we might finish mid table, but it won’t feel like progress unless we go on a nuts good run.
Of the recent signings. It appears only one has so far failed Santos. Celar is a sort of plus/ minus. Madsen and Andersen I feel are in the same boat. Bennie is in development But Saito, Frey, Morgan, Nardi, Morrison and Varane are a success Dembele was looking good before injury. That is not bad ( add that to previous success of Cook, Smyth, JCS ...don't know about Colback really)...recruitment is looking up
Not sure where we finished under Warburton, but I do recall that we were pushing for the playoffs. Under Beale we were top of the table before he ****ed off. Under both we played watchable football.

In 2022 we finished 11th under Warburton with 66 points. I think we were looking towards the play offs but did that thing where we lost five games on the spin.
. Well yes. For 10 days. And then his crown slipped, the rot started and lasted a few weeks while he proclaimed his loyalty principle then ****ed off. The football was hardly great once the rot set in and did not recover until the run in last season under Cifuentes. Injuries do make a difference, Even the saintly Guardiola has struggled this season but in his case he has had an open cheque book until now. Happy to praise the quality of his football even though the trophies were all bought. Not quite as brilliant now that the owners are having to explain their dodgy dealings and have therefore told him to make do with the platers already there. None of our managers have had the chance to throw money at the problem.
I think a big reason our club seems to have on going health issues is because many of the members & supporters are such decrepit crocks, deemed medically unfit and if we were animals, would've been put down years ago. There ......... l've said it. The truth is out.
Marvellous, can you donate a right hip, upper back bone, 1 left knee, a right shoulder, an eye, 3 heart valves, 6 six toes and an ankle. I also recently had a crew cut but it looks like the crew have started bailing out…. All donations are fully tax deductible. Thanks in advance.
