Both Hughes and Giles could have done better. But tbf, it was a very good goal from them. Simple but good. As soon as Tymon got the ball he knew exactly what he was going to do, where the opportunity was. Good movement from him to create the angle to cross, great cross and a very good header.
But the point of my post wasn't particularly about who was at fault for their goal.

Yep, this is Selles being pragmatic and setting up a team to win the game, our defensive shape and patience to, at times, allow them the ball was really good to see - we made a good team look average

Thought at times we played it out from the back differently yesterday. From Pandur the ball went to a midfielder but unlike with Seri not directly to the midfileder it would go to the center backs out wide and then to either Puerta or Alzate who would be be postioned further upfield in the center which allowed them to receive the ball not facing goalwards but at angle make a quick 45 turn and move the ball quickly upfield with pace

This maybe isn't worth much, but it was notable to me that their keeper Vigouroux had been really good at those passes out to the touchline, dropping it on the wide player's feet time after time, before he eventually messed one up leading to the goal. The same was true of West Brom's keeper a few weeks ago who kept making those passes but then messed up a couple in a row which let us pen them in and eventually score, and he made a point of holding his hands up to the away fans at half time. Just noteworthy that probably the two best keepers for distribution to play against us have also contributed to us scoring from it.

Pandur’s short distribution was excellent yesterday. Unless he’s relentlessly worked on it since he joined, I have no doubt in my mind he could’ve easily stepped in when he joined

It just sounded as though you were blaming Giles more than anyone. My point was Hughes was with the goalscorer on the edge of the penalty area but never ran back with him and was stood between the penalty spot and edge or the penalty area when the goal was scored.I like Hughes and think he is a star in the making, but could have done more on this occasion

And Giles should have dealt easily with the two players, despite them having the height advantage!
Poor from Hughes not tracking back.

He wasn’t disputing that. You’d referred to ‘their first goal’, when they only scored one.

Loathe to drag out the old Rosenior arguments.....but having watched Pandur this season I find it utterly baffling that Allsopp consistently started from Jan onwards, some of the goals the clown let in I'd have backed Pandur to save for sure

Pandur was **** preseason, maybe Rosenior knew he'd take a while to settle in and a run in trying to get in the play offs wasn't the time to bed him in

We were as wide open as wide open comes in pre season, learning to play the most mental style of play we've been asked to play

Short distribution isn't the hard bit though, it's the longer stuff that Allsop particularly excelled at and which was surely the reason he was favoured. If Pandur is ever dropped for Rushworth, that will be the reason for that too.

Didn't really matter the style he couldn't save a shot or make a pass preseason, in fact preseason he looked like an outfield player having a go in goal
