We were the lowest scorers in the top 12 teams that season But conceded like the third or fourth fewest goals Peterbrough scored more than us and they got relegated
Even in that relatively low-scoring promotion side, the number of goals by defenders is stark compared to more recent years. Faye 4, McShane 2, Chester 1. Presumably all set pieces or second phases of them. I'm not saying anything new here but that's been totally absent for the last few years.
Greaves scored occasionally but not as many as you'd expect given how dominant he was in the air in defensive situations. I remember last season there were stats showing he was winning more aerial duels than anyone else in the league, yet I think he only scored the two against Huddersfield (and one of those wasn't a header).
I answered this before I will give long answer first time, I was an expat in UK for 2 years working for olympics association after 2012 olympics, during Premier League season of Hull, I was able to watch one home and two away games in 2013-14 season. About teams in Turkey, I have 2 hometowns so i support any of their teams if they reach top league, namely, Bodrum, and big 3 of Izmir teams, Goztepe, Karsiyaka, Altay. They have rivalries between each other, but I don't care, since only one of them can make it to Super Lig lately, that's my team. But in general every Turkish people also supports one of big 3 and that one is Galatasaray, similar to many European based people with some kind of Turkish heritage. It is usually the only team we were able to see in our childhood, since others are usually eliminated in early rounds of European competition so Turkish diaspora in Europe usually supports them.
If we had 11 Slater's we'd be in a much better spot than we are now. At least we'd have a team full of graft. Our current side is way more talented than the Grant side that came back up, it just doesn't have the grit, the fight or the togetherness. We're so soft.
Grant’s team completely threw the towel in. Smashed nearly every game. This lot have been smashed once. They’re in nearly every game yet we never take advantage of our spells on top and quality shows.
I see two new directors were added yesterday, both Turkish, a chief legal officer and chief finance officer. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I've been to some very ****y places in the wild east but never had to eat in the same place two nights in a row, wouldn't go to the best place in town two nights in a row either.
I wouldn't want cheese on toast aka pizza two nights in a row. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
That's the value of clean sheets. And goals contributed from around the pitch, not necessarily relying on a Bowen, KLP, Oscar Tufan, Philogene, Delap or Carvallo. Our CBs should be scoring more from set pieces, our fullbacks should be contributing more, our centre mids needs to be weighing in on a consistent basis and in a 3, our wingers need to be scoring more. We have 3 first team strikers, we have 7 goals from them and obviously that's not good enough, but they can and should be better supported by the rest of the squad in terms of scoring.
To be fair, Philogene, Delap and Carvalho as well as Connolly and Tufan all getting ~10 goals each was a pretty good example of not relying on a single goalscorer. Not enough from midfield or defence though, granted.
If they all did it at the same time towards the last quarter of last season we'd be laughing. But they didn't. Carvallo's goals just replaced the ones missed by delaps injury. Tufan wasn't always a regular, he was mercurial throughout. Connolly was patchy as an Irish quilt and was a write off after the Gunn collision, and Philogene was switched to accommodate Zaroury, which turned into a net deficit.
I missed the last home game vs. Oxford due to daughter been in hospital. Was Acun in attendance? Last season it was rare for him to miss away games never mind home but I haven’t noticed him at the home games recently?
