Why our fans are saying it I have no idea. Sadists I suppose. We were kinder to RM than any other fan base in the PL would have been. When it comes to pundits it is just laziness and lack of understanding about clubs outside the Sky Six or the race for Europe.
Fair enough and I am the last to say he didn't have his faults, that's what has done him in without a doubt. I think we all would have felt that he had failed if he hadn't got promoted but everyone surely realised and shouldn't forget that the championship is a very tough league. This year again there are 4 teams pushing for promotion and only three will get it. Leeds had a better front line than us and Ipswich and Leicester had better managers. He did it with a broken squad too so I take that into account. When we were on a roll last season the football was bloody good and everyone was loving him. Os started a Martin out thread and changed it to a Martin love-in and then turned it to Martin is **** and deluded. One thread - Same manager. Anyway, I know he didnt have what it takes at this level and he had a bloody good chance. I just don't think for a second that there will be rapturous applause when the new guy is announced or that results will take a dramatic upturn. Not a lot to celebrate for me.
I feel slightly sorry for RM (SLIGHTLY) the club employed him to play a certain style of football which he did. He should have realised that the players he was handed were not good enough the club didn't recruit the type of player needed for what they asked him to do, when I say club I mean director of football so as well as a new manager who is going shuffle Ankerson to a less (no)hands on role? Cheeky bid to bring Charlie Alcarez back in January.
Thing is I actually do respect Martin and like him too in many ways. Outside of football he seems like a great bloke. He was certainly a good man manager. It wasn’t easy to turn the club around. He’s just a pretty bad football manager. He was very poor tactically the whole time. Almost all of the concerns about him proved true tbh. Also as others have said.. he did exactly what he said he was going to do. Can’t ask for more than that. It was just exceptionally naive. And his excuses ran thin by the end. I wish him well but I will be very surprised to see him back in the PL without huge changes to his philosophy
Absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Martin is the main reason we've been so dire this season. As many people have said, it's a poor squad but there's enough there to be much more competitive than we have been, as evidenced by past two matches. One million percent worse than Jones. Nobody will convince me otherwise.
As I keep saying elsewhere… The level of the squad is the reason we will go down. Russell Martin is the reason we are well adrift and having to worry about the Derby record
Russell was clearly the issue however the issue now is why the **** the board seemingly had no desire to do it until the fans basically shouted him out the ground. And by all accounts they would have been happy to keep him if that never happened? That’s the real concern here. They have done nothing but convince me that they have no clue what they’re doing.
They don’t have a scooby. Shocking in every department and were no doubt exceptionally lucky we got promoted again or we would be even more in the **** than we are currently. Dread to think where we will be in 5-10 years under these buffoons
Interesting; does he think he can do better? If he's having an interview, he obviously thinks he wants to get back into a job quickly.
Widely agreed that Corberan had been overachieving with a limited squad and even more limited budget at West Brom. Has Martin ever overachieved? It will be interesting to see where he does go next.
Yeah, I can see that. Not sure his ego would go there yet though given all the smoke pundits and PL managers were blowing up his ass. I can see him having one more job before returning to Norwich. Could see him holding out for the Leicester or Ipswich jobs (assuming they go down with us, or one of Sheff Utd, Burnley or Leeds if one of them don’t go up) and having the best players and budget in the championship again next season, as surely no PL team would hire him right now, but he does now have a recent promotion on his cv.
Yeah I was thinking he might try and see if he can get one of the other two relegated clubs. Although I think Ipswich will stick with McKenna.
