I think it's bad news, Southampton have a better squad than us but Martin is a manager who appears slightly unhinged which doesn't help his players who after a bad result he tends to chuck under the bus.
Tbh, I am not that bothered, our Club has the right spirit, togetherness, and KM keeps his head on difficult days. We have shown time again that we are more than a match for most Prem teams in spite of having a seriously depleted squad.
There is a good article on the BBC sports site about premiership teams sacking managers and the consequences of those sackings.
I saw that. Inexplicably it seems to offer no comparison with teams that didn’t sack their manager. To answer the question “Does sacking a manager help you avoid relegation?” requires a comparison like that because otherwise it’s impossible to say whether changing the manager actually improved the chances of staying up. In some cases those teams would have stayed up anyway.
I was a bit worried about using the word "good " however it was quite informative. 39 % survival rate!
There’s some interesting reading out there about ‘regression to the mean’. In other words, managers tend to get sacked after a run of below average results but naturally below average results will return to average with some better ones. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-23724517.amp It’s fair to speculate that all we’d achieve by replacing McKenna is a hefty bill.
Possibly bad as it has come before the transfer window, any new manager will be looking to bring in a couple of new players and they might well be shopping for the same ones Ipswich are interested in, that's assuming you have funds left after a huge preseason spend. Southampton and Wolves are as good as down, I don't feel you need to worry about them, it is Leicester and Everton who you should be concerned with, if either finish below Ipswich it means you are safe. I certainly don't feel Southampton have a better squad than you
