I think it would be more him not wanting the job now than us not wanting him. Definitely the right decision to sound him out (like it sounds like we are doing) but he might not want the job atm
If we want him as first choice and if we are willing to pay Rohl's compensation amount then we will go and get him. Simple as that. He won't turn us down. He will get a lot more money guaranteed as well as showcasing his ability at PL level. SW are far from guaranteed to get a playoff spot and so he won't turn down this opportunity.
Not sure about the players not being focused, apart from KWP leaving on a free and Ramsdale, I don’t think any of them can realistically be expecting premier league football next season by phoning it in until May
Reading a Sheff Weds forum, this guy was the first person to report that Rohl was being hired by Sheff Weds.....
I will be fuming if it’s a ****ing compensation issue that stops us getting him. I’ve lost count over the last however many years where we’ve been in opportunities where if we just paid a bit ****ing extra short term we’d be in a better situation long term but instead we’ve gone the cheap route and it’s ****ed us. Please don’t let this be one.
Does Rohl play a similar pressing style to Hasenhuttl? I know almost nothing about bin as haven’t watched Sheff w at all. Feels like his record on paper is already better than Martin’s when we gambled on him. At least he’s proven he can have a positive impact on a club. Still don’t really know what it was about martins record that SR loved
Except I gather we are financially a bit ****ed when it comes to PSR rules. Not that points deductions should really make a difference at this stage. So maybe it is also actual money. Or just taking the Arsene Wenger style high road and being naively optimistic that the rules will be fairly applied to everyone
Ornstein did an interview yesterday where he said our PSR situation isn’t that bad. Whether that is for the PL and we have to consider the Championship rules for next year I’m not sure how it all works with carry overs from previous seasons in different divisions. Seem to remember Villa and Bournemouth being being threatened with points deductions if they got relegated within a couple of season of returning to the PL, see Sheff Utd this year I think. No idea if we are in that boat
That’s why I mentioned I would be annoyed if it’s a relatively small compensation that stops the talks as i could have swore there’s been a fair few reports that both financially and in terms of the fairness rules we’re not actually looking too bad right now.
Dragan cares. This is in the Athletic article above: Dragan Solak, the club’s billionaire owner and Sport Republic’s lead investor, could not hide his frustration after the 5-1 defeat by Chelsea on December 4, and was witnessed by The Athletic saying, “Just kick the f****** ball out” during a conversation in a hospitality box, located just behind the press area, at the final whistle.
They had a Christmas piss up And then conceded goal after goal in the following game. The entire club is a ****ing embarrassment. Sack everyone
Was going to say a similar thing. Who on earth OKd this? Surely it was someone higher than the coaching staff?
One thing that is worth mentioning. With all the noise, Rohl hasn't come out and said "no, I'm committed to the project at Sheffield Wednesday" and he could have done.
Absolute shambles of a board if there really was no alarm bells before Spurs and that the board were plenty happy with heading in the direction of a battering every week and the worst Prem points tally ever. While clubs above desperately scramble to get a new manager to turn things around we instead blame bad reffing decisions and insist we’re getting better when anyone with a brain stem can see it’s only getting worse.
