I hear that question quite a bit. Short answer is no. I think it may be an old tradition of having to pay a fee if you go through a parish but it’s not something that is ever done now. You do pay a fee if you have the funeral service in the church but not for driving past it

Funeral wise my preference was being fed to sharks or blown to smithereens but apparently these are too traumatic/illegal so buried in a cardboard box with an apple tree above me is my compromise.
