If they have the opportunity, I think they need to make a bit of a statement appointment rather than gamble again. But that’s a big IF. I’d be happy with Benitez and you’d think there would be a chance of getting him as he has said he would love to manage again in the premier league, and is realistic to know that it would be at a club like ours, where his opportunity may come??
I could see Rafa staying on to in the championship also when we inevitably get relegated. Don't think the club would go for him personally.
I did read somewhere that Solak is pushing for a more experienced manager like a Benitez? Jim White tried to get him on talksport this morning but he replied that he is in America and had just got up, and he will gladly talk soon, if he had just got up that would have been around 6am over there, so may be on the case?
If I was guessing, I'd say that the likes of Parsons are the ones supporting the Rohl move, whereas Ankersen will want Hjulmand. So I would automatically go for anyone that Ankersen doesn't want.
Are there saints fans out there that think we can stay up? I mean mathematically yes we can, but the squad is so far behind the rest I just can’t see it. Our defence last night was the same as what we had in the championship, where we conceded 63 goals… Unless the new manager is even worse than Martin, I think the vast majority of fans would cut him slack if we go on to get relegated, as is widely expected. Takes time for a manager to implement their style and way of working, so it’s better to start that now than in the summer, in my opinion. RM was a summer appointment and it still took a fair few games at the start of the season to get playing exactly as he wanted.
Charles is just a bit sloppy in possession and when you’re being asked to make 1000 passes a game and sometimes receiving the ball with your back to goal and surrounded by opposing players then it’s way easier to **** up. I think Ugochukwu has found the ultra possession equally choking. They’re both more Wanyama than Schneiderlin
I think the opportunity is a good one - is a no pressure tilt at PL survival, gaining a half season window to manage in the PL, and having a very good shot at being in the mix to come back up if/when we do go down. Is nothing to lose and everything to gain for many of the best Championship managerial options.
I think he has another year until 2026? Seem to remember there being a 1 year clause or something when we got promoted? I might be wrong on that though. I’m sure president of the Stephens fan club @Saints Fan4Life can confirm
Gotta be made up. Can't see that Rohl would have agreed to that in his contract. And 10m for a bunch of coaches has got to be a joke. He has four with him, so that would be 2.5m each. Although with their mad owner, it's probably true. Edit: Found a link: https://www.thestar.co.uk//sport/fo...-amid-sheffield-wednesday-speculation-4624433 So his contract runs out in 6 months anyway. I'm sure that would mean there is some wiggle-room in the negotiations. Or he could just quit. It's the Swansea-Russ affair all over again ffs.
I’d absolutely love Rafa Benitez. Would be exactly what we need imo. Sensible manager that would sort the club out. Throw as much money at him as we can.
F*ck me, I got shot down so hard by so many people on here when I suggested Rafa towards the end of Ralph's reign. How times have changed!
